Did anybody catch Fowler's comment after the game last night to Saban? He commented about Saban's BCSNC at LSU and how he left it set up for Miles to win also. Saban did not respond to it.

they both won a NC three years after arriving at the school. there's no way you can rag on Miles about winning with Saban's players without saying the same thing about Nicky.

I meant McElroy wasn't flashy just steady. Although, not good numbers last night. "Game Manager"
i know what you're saying and in that respect i agree a little, but Flynn was even better at that in my opinion. you honestly can't say McElroy did anything impressive at all last night. no interceptions? that tends to happen when you don't throw the ball, so i can't give him credit for that. when you only throw a handful of times you'd expect to complete most of them because it typically means your running game has set you up for some easy play action passes. i don't know, he may not have lost any games but i don't look at him as really "winning" any either.

Saban won with Shula's players

Not really. Unfortunately, he is the best in college football.

some one broke it down back after the 07 season, but offensive and defensive production was roughly 50/50 between players Miles inherited and the ones he recruited.

Well, now that LM is losing with LM's players, that's all that really matters.

And, Saban will upgrade the talent at Bama, so it only get harder.

No, I Saban is making winners out of Shula's boys...instilling discipline, demanding excellence.

And BTW, Julio Jones, Trent Richardson, Mark Ingram, Rolando McClain...sound familiar. They were all recruited by Saban.

Yet another Miles Apologist mantra goes down the drain...but hey, you can still talk about his 51 wins.

From Fowler's mouth to God's ear, huh?

One of the commentators also suggested that the Miami people were ready to "run off" Saban. Guess that's true, too, huh?

The media are prostitutes. Three years ago Saban was a lying hypocrite. He wins now & he's the best since sliced-bread. I'm not disagreeing with Fowler's comment, but just pointing out that what the media says about a particular coach at a particular time is like building your house on shifting sand.

I did catch it, and despite what the majority of the Rant, and all Miles Apoogists believe...it's the truth. It's the Elephant in the room when it comes to discussing Miles abilities as a coach. Miles walked into a great situation (just like Coker...another comparrison that Miles Apologists love to try to controvert). That championship was his to lose...and he almost did.

Absolutely. It's painfully obvious to everyone except for a group of LSU fans who either can not see it, or refuse to believe it.

I agree with your premise, however, McClain came to UA in '06. Coach Saban caught lighting in a bottle with Ro. Rolando wanted to play for UA, even with Coach Shula being there. It is just very fortuitous that they, being Coach Saban and Ro, are cut from the same cloth. Some NFL team is going to be very lucky to get McClain.

McElroy is a better QB than Flynn was.

2508 yards, 60.9%, 7.72 YPA, 17 TD/4 INT, 140.5 Rating

2407 yards, 56.3%, 6.71 YPA, 21 TD/11 INT, 125.8 Rating

And just because I'm sure some of you will say that McElroy got to play with the Heisman winner and another great tailback, Alabama was 12th in rushing offense this year. LSU had the #11 rushing offense to back up Flynn.

Sorry...I'll take the word of a Bama alum (chuckle), but Rivals has him listed in the 2007 class. I know Saban stepped onto campus in like December of 2006, but he still signed McClain if Rivals is correct. To me, he's Saban's guy because Saban held onto him, signed him (if Rivals is correct) and, of course, molded him into the player he is today.

McElroy plays like Flynn
Not even remotely true

Agreed. MF was far better than McElroy but the latter does have another year to improve. Defense and an AA running game won the national title. LSU had better offenses in '03 and 07 FWIW. Mauck and McElroy are a better comparison IMO.

i don't think fowler was making any direct reference to miles winning w/ saban's talent. i mean he was talking about saban and his accomplishments: won a nc at lsu and ala, and left miles w/ talent (which he did). i think we're too sensitive to the "winning w/ saban's talent" mantra we heard back then.
just my opinion
