So what does the recruiting coordinator do? Both positions sound similar

The initial thinking was that he had a clearer path for AD over there when pat Haden was gone, but with the hiring of Lynn Swann it may have been clear to him that he'll never get that AD job because he's not a flashy name and former player

Good for us regardless

Also I read he's coming back with the additional title of "assistant AD"

Maybe it was assistant to the AD

I'd guess he was getting around 60-80 before. Bama pays 100+ to about 10 off field positions.

I do agree that leaving USC after only 3 months raises some concerns. But it could be an issue of him being promised one thing and then actually getting something else in relation to his work responsibilities.

This.

He would probobly be an upgrade to our current AD if he ever got the job. He could make hats. "Make LSU Great Again". Thomas for AD.

Is it out of the rhelm of possibility he was undervalued and lsu didn't pony up the cash and so left. After only 3 months of his departure it was apparent they needed him back and offered enough ?

...and this

It is very ironic to me that this is happening to this Austin Thomas guy as I am going through a very similar situation right now. I just moved cities (and I've always wanted to move to this city) for a new job that has turned out to be completely different than what was told to me and what I was expecting it to be based on representations. Suffice it to say, my last day will be this Friday (after only 4 weeks on the job), it is disappointing the hell out of me now that I've got to back to my old job in a city I wanted to leave, and I do wonder how this will look to outsiders. But I guess this stuff does happen and I wouldn't doubt it at all if Austin Thomas has some of the same reasons I do for going back to the old job. Good luck to him.

Shea on AFR saying Les has stayed on him the past 3 months. Ultimately made him a offer that was too good for Thomas to pass

All this, plus Shea has added that leaving showed Austin he had put down a lot of roots and really liked what he had at LSU. Made it very clear that nothing went down at USC and it was tough to tell then he was leaving, but Miles stayed on him hard and that plus the same upgraded role was enough to get him back.

In his 3 years at LSU, we've had our best run of classes. Supposedly he breaks down a lot of film and helps to identify players.

I do know that the house he lived in prior to taking the position at USC never went on the market after he took said position. I'm not saying this was part of some larger plan but I did find it somewhat interesting.

That is pretty interesting. Great to have him back
