We should claim the 1908 title for that reason alone. That is significant, I think.

Yes. And screw Georgia Tech!!!

Actually, Vanderbilt, who unfortunately for them was a power 100 yrs ago ,and not much since the late 50's, was awarded some poll in 1906.

That was a retroactive computer poll, which doesn't count. Anybody can come up with a formula that gives whomever they want a title if they try hard enough.

The plot to stop LSU from claiming the 1908 starts with Tulane....

They charged LSU with everything form paying players to recruiting players to players not going to classes.

The next main player is Auburn, after LSU beat the Plainsmen, they wanted to prove LSU was a paid professional team, it's funny to see a Auburn article saying LSU is the 1908 National Champions, as they had an alumni travel all over the country in 1908-09 to prove Wingard was paying the players.

The next two are Grantland Rice and the Michigan football machine. Grantland wrote an article about LSU after the Auburn win and it was not a pretty picture, with the Michigan 3 behind some of the false rumors.

I have copies of the letters, articles and books on the 1908 season.

The good:

Edgar Wingard

The bad:

Auburn

The ugly:

Grantland Rice

Tulane is best said:

Wanted to do everything to bring down the fast growing LSU football machine.

LSU won the National Championship Foundation title in 1908. Michigan claims early 20th century National Championship Foundation titles, not saying that means we should, but someone does. I think we should claim 1908.

It makes sense to hang a 1908 Nat Title flag in TS, it makes sense to paint another Nat Title year on the rig's trailer, it makes sense to add 1908 to the Jumbotrons..

LSU's Ath-Dept is sleeping this one wrongly..

1908 isn't wishy-washy..this is a legit title to claim..

And utterly stupid to not do so.

I don't know why we don't claim it as well? I know we're not Bama and claim each and every dog biscuit thrown our way, but ....

The only thing is, i think its disrespectful to the players who won it to not recognize it.

How would you feel if you werent recognized for winning a national championship when other teams were?

So while some may use the bama point of view, i think claiming it would be the right thing.

Pre-AP poll the winner of the Rose Bowl was considered the National Champ. Its even posted outside the stadium.

Like it or not, thats the way the college football world, except our SEC "brethren" look at it.

If we want to go by only AP, Harris or whatever then lets erase all records prior to 1945 and start form there. YOu call them non-legit, made up. We call them titles and were given the titles by the Rose Bowl and CFF. If you take ours, you gotta take a lot of teams away that THEY claim as well.
I know this isnt baseball but you should read about the history of college football sometime. I also know that looking at the WHOLE history of college football dosent fit into what you like to see but its there even if it doesnt fit LSU or other schools agendas. If you dont want to recognize them then dont, we couldnt care less whether LSU or anybody does or not.
Besides, we have ALOT You know and we know are legit. Even to close minded uneducated football fans.

You failed, Gump. The Rose Bowl did not officially start until 1916. There was a game in 1902 but Michigan beat Stanford 49-0 and the Tournament of Roses had Chariot Races from 1903-1915 as part of the New Years festivities.
