Even if Travonte Valentine shows up the season is less than a month away. He hasn't been with the team for 2 years. Am I excited he's coming back? Hell ya! Do I think he will emerge as a starter? Yup. Thankfully he's coming in at an opportune time because of the injury to LaCouture but in the meantime who steps in????? I would think that it would be Frank Herron.....

I wish people would quit melting and freaking out. Yes, Loc and Washington were big blows but Aranda is very flexible .
We still have 3-4 personel, but its a hybrid.
He can easily shift to a 4-2-5 with a stand up rush End
Buck:Key,Bower,Sci, Thornton
DT:Godchaux,Valentine,Lawrence
DT:Herron,Gilmore, Alexander
SDE:Neal, Clark, Logan
MLB:Beckwith, White, Voorhies
RoverB: Riley,Divinity, Thompson
And you already know the secondary is stacked. Relax guys.

This.
Lac was a far bigger loss than was Washington. But with the addition of T. Val. offsets that loss. We'll be alright.

You won't get your answer on here because no one knows. Hell the coaches probably don't even know exactly how they're going to set it up. They probably have a good idea, but you never know.

can you imagine if LSU still had Steele?

Both are big losses and you might be right but, I really thought Washington was going to break out this year. Next man up!

Lol who is melting and freaking out? The dude just asked a question.
And in response to the OP, I believe Frank Herron us the guy that replaces Lac. I strongly believe he has the talent and ability to fill that role and maybe even be an upgrade. Herron is a tank.

In his defense, people all over tRant are freaking out about Lac's injury. IMO, we won't see a drop off in play. We built DL depth for these situations.

Definitely. Herron was playing very well at the end of last year.

Yeah, an upgrade - the guy who stood on the sideline for three years while LaCouture played.

Lac was a great player and leader but I believe there is better talent on the team at that position
Posted on 8/9/16 at 5:40 pm to Stellytiger
I agree. It's just young and unproven at this point.

Stickiest DBs in FBS, you could have Rudy, a poster of Valentine and two punters on DL and still dominate

I guess you don't agree with me?
I've watched as much LSU football as anybody. I watch last year's games and practices/spring games literally daily. I can't get enough. When Frank Herron was on the field, he looked better than Lac. U know it's possible to have a player playing behind someone that is actually better than the player in front of them in the depth chart?
Happens all the time. Me and another poster were discussing that maybe Herron isn't on the best terms with the coaches or something similar to that. The dude has more God given talent than Lac and was extremely disruptive towards the end of the year and in the spring game.

Neal and Godchaux will be two of the starter.
To echo what someone else said, the third starter will probably determine where DG plays.
My guess is Herron or Gilmore will get the first shot. Clark is also a possibility.
If valentine is what he is cracked up to be, he'll probably be the third starter.
That's a pretty solid two deep before you add the three freshman Lawrence, Logan and alexander...
Can't wait to see these guys wearing out OLs

Sorry if I sound like a downer but what was LaCoutures stats last year? I didn't really ever see him blow up plays or really make many big tackles for loss. I feel like Herron or Valentine would be an upgrade.

Yeah just like in 2011 when Jarrett Lee had led LSU to an 8-0 record with the top Qb passer rating in the SEC and when jailbird Jefferson comes back Lee just gets thrown to the dogs and shite on and had to sit and watch that horrid Qb play ahead of him when Lee was obviously better. Miles has a track record for not starting his best players for certain reasons and I have never been impressed with LaCouture. Most snaps he just stands there like a statue and never tries to bull rush to the qb. Sorry but I think Herron is an upgrade and should have been the starter last year.
