He can't shake the interim mindset but had no problem with a $12 million buyout.

Outside the locker room, Orgeron and Alleva locked eyes.

"What do you say, Joe?!" Orgeron shouted.

"What do you say?!" Alleva responded.

The men embraced, embattled coach and embattled athletic director surviving one game at a time. By beating rival Florida, they might not have to hear about Orgeron's $12 million buyout -- neither the feasibility of paying it or the reason it was given to him in the first place.

"I thought we got close as a football team and a staff this week," Orgeron said. "I think Joe Alleva did a tremendous job of supporting us."

Very good read. I don't think anyone ever thought he was the smartest guy in the room in terms of X's and O's, but some of us were comforted that maybe Aranda and Canada are.

Well, now that O has damaged the relationship with Canada (and maybe Aranda) he's likely in big trouble, starting no later than next year. If Canada leaves because of the chaos, other coaches are going to pin that on O. We won't be able to pay elite coordinators enough to come here. O needs to do whatever it takes to win over both of those guys. My instincts tell me it's probably too late but we can hope.

with all due respect to Etling, it doesn't start with the players; they're not making millions of dollars to lead the program. It starts and ends with Orgeron, who is charged with setting the tone for everyone in the building. Read what Etling said again: a team built off energy. Think about that. Is that what a team should be? That's ... combustible.

Then why hire him as head coach? This is what boggles my mind.

If it's going to be fire and brimstone all the time, it's going to be one heck of a roller coaster at LSU for the foreseeable future, and weeks like last week will be more the norm than the exception to the rule.

This speaks volumes. Orgeron's strategy is energy. His answer to everything is "well we just gotta play with more energy."

The flaw in that is NO team is going to have energy all of the time. And when we don't, that's when we lose to Troy and MSU.

It's like he got the job but doesn't act like it. He doesn't talk like a leader. He says what he thinks people want to hear.

Its the exact opposite of Nick Saban's process.

Orgeron's teams at Ole Miss were the same way. Came out the tunnel fired up as hell, would look good in the first quarter, and would make one big mistake and the wind in their sails was gone and they'd get blown out.

Every single week looked like the LSU/MSU game.

When your fricking AD is watching film with you it shows a complete lack of respect by your peers.

O is just figure head.

One of the other things that's bothered me was when he was asked about the issues with the lines, the kickers, etc. His answer was "we have to go recruit some guys". While that's obviously important, I just don't think I've ever heard a head coach say that rather than something like "the coaching staff and I need to coach them and make them better". Seems like it speaks to him relying much more on his strength as a recruiter than an actual coach. If they're not SEC caliber when they get here, will anyone be capable of getting them there?
