As much as people gripe about the 2007 NC, had that season been played in earlier decades, we would have been 10-0-2, making us the only undefeated team in the country.

If hard luck means one of the top five or three programs in the country the last ten years, then yes.
99% of the schools in the country would kill to have the record and titles we have.
And we did it with no help from the SEC home office.

What would be better is to move the SEC's office from Birmingham to Nashville. Vandy will never be a football power, and TN seems like it won't be, either, for a long time to come. Thus, it wouldn't matter much if their graduates disproportionately populated the SEC's staff. Also, you wouldn't have the vast majority of the football refs living in Gumpland.

If winning 2 titles in 10 years = "hard luck" then I'll take it any day of the week.

In 2011, this team put together the greatest regular college football season in anyone's recent memory. They win the "Game of the Century", dispose of a great team from the East in Ga, and their reward? Having to play a rested Alabama team.
Scoring no points and getting no first downs was inexcusable. We were out-matched, out-coached, and out-maneuvered. Had nothing to do with luck.

you people need to step off the ledge. We're one of the most successful programs in college football history.

exactly. never thought I'd agree with a Moustache post so much.

Well...
We finally get an offense after 5 years and our defense sucks due to the youth. Guess what happens next year! The defense has more experience but we lose our starting QB, likely our top two WR and starting RB.

Look to the SEC office. With a friendlier schedule, we'd have beaten Kentucky or Vandy, and still be undefeated.

We lost. Luck had nothing to do with it.
They deserved to win that game.
Quit crying and continue to support the LSU Tigers.

did that extra week of rest really mean that much? I mean we had like a month off.

That's absolutely ridiculous. Clemson plays in a weak ACC and drops games it has no business dropping (ie NC ST)
We have been closer to Alabama than any team in America and yet we are losing close games to them as they're making a historic run with what many consider to be the best college football coach ever.
We've lost a handful of close games to extremely good teams over the last few seasons.
We aren't Clemson.

no way.
i'm primarily a uga fan, but i'm from BR and an LSU fan too.
LSU is an elite program from a national perspective. Period. How do you know? Because LSU gets everybody's best shot.
LSU has had as many 'big stage' games as any team in the country over the last 15 years, and has won the vast majority of those.
The success of LSU's football program has brought Louisiana culture and food to a national consciousness and has contributed to the perceived and actual improvement of the university as an institution of higher learning.
Louisiana has a TON of NFL talent, and LSU has no problem landing the vast majority of them. They are LSU from the crib. Yes georgia (state of) has more of it in absolute numbers, but UGA must fend off every major program in bordering states for those kids.
2 national championships in 10 years and both of those years, despite having the best team in the nation, it took a little magic to get yall there.
as pointed out above, look at all the other programs who have been close many times over the same time frame and have nothing to show for it.
shite, look at oregon, who gets as much buzz as anybody in the country. and of course, UGA, as pointed out above.
any LSU fan who thinks LSU is a hard luck program has a very serious problem with perception, expectations, and reality of modern day big boy college football.

No disagreement at all from me on this point.
Still, just sayin, with some good fortune here/there, we've been all what you said, PLUS have a couple more NC's to ad to it, again, but for some "hard luck".

Starting to feel that way.
bullshite, only one team has more bcs titles than us, only one other team has the same amount.
Other than bama, i want these other programs to show me their trophies, until then we are still the 2nd best program in the country.
The last two sec champions are bama and LSU. So until another team can win the sec, im not buying it.

Thanks for the kind words. As I've said earlier, my hate for the Ga program is not strong. Probably because it's filled with guys like you.
Anyway, your post is the antithesis, or "half glass full" of my OP.
Sure, all of what you said is true. As all of what I said is too; thus, your post mentions perspective, which is why both can be right, but be opposite sides of the coin. Perspective.
Look, I'm a posiTiger. I think what happened Saturday is that we played the only team with an offense as good as ours, in their stadium, and came up a fumbled punt, or a slip on a route, or any other of a handful of plays short. We got beat by a team that is somewhere between as good as us and a little better than us. It happens. Being a positiger, I think we now win out, beat AtM in a shootout, beat Bama, see y'all again in the SECCG, and win the NC.
But MY GAWD we've been close, I mean OH SO CLOSE to the closest thing to perfection on a football field as possible.

Man you have a very low self image. LSU is what programs like Stanford and Oregon are trying to be and they are in top 5. Can you list your top 5 or top 10 elite programs? Looks like you have to win the NC every to be elite in your mind.
