obviously the season isnt over yet so these numbers will be skewed, but theyll also be skewed because we're breaking in a new and complicated scheme.

nonetheless I wanted to see how Arandas S&P+ national defensive rankings compared to the numbers LSU had under chavis and Pelini

year - rush defense ranking - pass defense ranking

2016 - 4 - 4
2015 - 40 - 7
2014 - 18 - 5
2013 - 40 - 20
2012 - 5 - 7
2011 - 1 - 2
2010 - 36 - 12
2009 - 9 - 18
2008 - 33 - 28
2007 - 10 - 8
2006 - 25 - 2
2005 - 23 - 5

suffice to say i want to rework this guys contract immediately. Aranda makes 1.2, steele makes 1.4, and chavis makes 1.55. that needs to be fixed.

S&P+ rankings

So was the opponent strength of schedule exactly the same each year - road games vs. home - what factors are you building into the results, or are all things equal?

Yet Bo's defense frequently imploded against the certain offenses, like against Arky in 2007

Not only is the 2011 tea the highest ranked defense for lsu, but that team also probably played the toughest schedule. They beat high octane offenses like oregon and wvu

It's actually not complicated. What Steele ran was complicated. It's just a new scheme that requires certain personnel, most notably at the linebacker position.

It's the toughest schedule LSU has ever played. 07 was up there too. If I can find the site again they list the schools all time sos.

Your OP is more of an indictment of Miles. The 2 years we made the BCS game, LSU was top 10 in pass and run defense. This year we are too, yet we've already lost 2 games, and a very slim chance of making the playoffs.

Those stats tell you all you need to know. Even when the defense was doing its job, the offense was no help. The 2 years we made the BCS saw an open offense with Flynn and JLee. Once Lee was replaced, we saw what happened against UGA and Bama.

The years in which the defense couldn't shut people down, LSU lost 3 to 5 games. 2016 would have been the same, even with a Top 10 defense. Arandas numbers are benefitting from an explosive offense. Defense is fresher, and able to take more risks

Sad, that Miles was allowed to underperform for as long as he did

Jarret Lee wasn't a good QB and the 2011 offense wasn't open under him. Danny Etling had more 200 yard passing games in games played in October against teams from Mississippi than Jarret Lee had in all of 2011, and he already has 3 games with more passing yards than Lee's highest in 2011.

I think the #4 in rushing is friggin absurd.

Dude is doing it with mirrors. We do NOT have a particularly good DL and to be #4 against the run this year is crazy.

I'm scared to see what happens if we keep him and he gets to field a DL of LSU's yesteryear.

I remember the threads saying he was shite after our old head coach's fired arse made us run an offense that lost T.O.P battle like 40 mins to 20 mins against Wisconsin

I don't give a shite about the rankings now. I see Aranda's defense stopping teams in the second half. The others lost a lot of games in the 4th quarter.
