It's just a thought. I find it ironic that he has a 3 year deal with no "Miles clause". He's a younger coordinator and is on the rise from a career stand point. I saw a few posters on here comparing him to Saban (not that I agree just yet). It just seems odd to give a guy that big of a pay raise and structure his contract differently than previous hires....

Thoughts?

You aren't the first to have it.

We likely don't get him, or any other DC we want without this type of deal.

Maybe Alleva just realized he screwed up so bad that he must give in to allow the football team to have success. I think this is more of a move about him trying to save his own arse, versus a HCIW.

However, I wouldn't mind it.

There is a lot more to being a college head coach than being a great DC or OC.

They wanted the guy and they did the deal to get the guy. It's a breath of fresh air.

1. In almost all cases LSU should hire someone who has been a head coach before.
2. If LSU hires a non-head coach, they should do as FSU did - bring him in, give him increasing responsibility each year until he is running the whole program, then retire Miles.
3. An X & O's genius isn't necessarily a great leader and administrator.
4. Alleva should evaluate him carefully over the next 10 months. If he thinks Aranda is "the man" make a coach-in-waiting deal.

I like how every coach is now HC in waiting.

Have some originality.

I started a thread on this a couple of days ago" Aranda Hire has the feel of HC in Waiting." He has the POTENTIAL to be the next LSU HC if his defenses perform spectacular. Long way to go on this, but he seems to have the right stuff and WOW factor which great HC's all have.

Rarely do coaches hire their replacement. Unless they are about to retire from coaching and become AD.

He won't be head coach in waiting, but I don't think I'd mind him being our next coach if the chips fall right.
