He recruited Vince (the great Saban thought VY should convert to WR fwiw )

That team was also loaded and could not you say Tebow got Meyer is titles? What coach has won titles with bad players?

I don't know, a conference championship over Nebraska during the Tom Osborne era and a heisman trophy candidate. I'm not saying they are even, but i think they are a lot closer than you think. Then again Texas is similar to Notre Dame in that the media will always love them, they will always recruit well. I have a hard time believing the Brown inherited crap.

I will say that I think Saban had less to work with than all three.

Lets compare bowl games... It wasn't until Brown's 7th year that he won a BCS game

also not an apples to apples comparison. In 2006, Les Miles 2nd year at LSU, the BCS expanded from 4 bowls to 5 basically (4 BCS Bowls + NCG), with 6 auto bids there are now 4 at large spots vs 2 previously so its easier now. You are also ingorning the general state of the programs when they got there, LSU was in much better shape when Les got here than Texas was when Mack got there.

From 1984 - 1997, Texas finished ranked in the Coaches poll all of 4 years ... 11 in 1990, 23 in 1994, 14 in 1995, 23 in 1996. ZERO top 10 finishes in 14 years.

Miles inherited a top 5 program and a team 2 years removed from the national championship.

Edit: coaches poll, not AP

the CCG was because they won 1 game. Anything can happen in a 1 game situation. Osborne HATED the idea of playing the CCG for that very reason. That Texas team winning would be like LSU winning the CCG in 08.
As for talent, Texas always has some talent, but Mack has clearly upgraded across the board, just look at the NFL drafts.

now, yes, but that was not the case in 97. Thru the 90's A&M was better than Texas, they recruited better, won more and had a big following. I know that's hard to realize givne the state of the programs now, but Texas was not the behemoth they are now before Brown got there. He deserves a lot of credit for where they are as a program.

Without having to read this entire thread...I'd take Brown over Miles all day everyday and twice on Sundays.

non sense. SOS Gators were more dominant in the SEC
quote:

Butch built Miami

Butch was hired in 95 after Erickson went to the NFL. Miami's record the 5 years before:

90 10-2 #3
91 12-0 National Champs
92 11-1 #2 (they won 27 strait from mid 90-92, only lose to Bama in Sugar Bowl
93 9-3
94 10-2
Remember they also won the NC in 89.

Butch's first 5 years at tha U:
95 8-3
96 9-3
97 5-6
98 9-3
99 9-4

looks a lot more like a decline than Butch building anything

Then your stupid! Mack could never do what Myles did during Katrina. So say's the UT fans in the Temple area, who don't worship the ground Mack walks on.

I honestly think there is no coach in football Miles is more similar to than Mack Brown. Mack just got bailed out of his clock mismanagement by the replay refs.

Didn't the Miami team Butch took over have some probation looming though?

I think Mack Brown is an elite. Besides, when he took over Texas, the Big 12 was a premier conference. Nebraska was a powerhouse, so was Kansas State. Texas A&M was still THE team in Texas. And Oklahoma was about to have a quick rise to the top. Also, Colorado didn't suck then.

Now, Texas makes the conference, as evidenced by the way they treated the expansion situation. Mack, with help, has turned UT into the most profitable football team in the land, while winning conference and national titles.

"I would never want mack brown at LSU. FWIW hitler could recruit at UT"

Mack has already been at LSU. QB's Coach. 1982.

Ut was ready to leave the Big 12, TAMU would not follow the Austin tree huggers to the PAC 10. The media spins UT as the savior to save face because they were the ones trying to create a mutiny. TAMU saved the Big 12 minus 2 not UT. UT caved in when TAMU demanded that if UT goes west TAMU goes east. You are right about Mack getting the help he needs when recruiting.
