But Mizzou only has basketball. They suck at everything else and this is the big sport on campus. Most LSU fans don't even know we have a basketball team.

Exactly! He's now (I think) the 2nd highest paid coach in the SEC. He's an ok coach, but a bidding war for a guy who had one unlikely NCAAT run at Tenn.? Did they need to make a diversity hire? Martin is a marginally better Johnny Jones

I get it from the standpoint of two proud programs that have woefully underachieved lately with coaches from D-II and the MAC, respectfully.
Martin isn't worth that kind of money, but he's from the region, he can recruit the area well, he's had moderate success in two different power conferences and he was attainable for both schools.
They're desperate to not only be better, but placate their fans.
