I love reading this stuff. I was laughing my arse off when I read someone offered 5 grand to take him out. Would like to hear any Archer, Dinardo, or Saban stories too.

I remember Dinardo cashing in on that one good year by opening a restaurant and becoming the official LSU spokesperson for Ford Trucks. I thought at the time he was tempting the football gods, and I was right.

I was in such despair I cancelled my LSU tickets and moved from Louisiana in 1992 before the season began, and didn't move back until Saban had wrapped up the 2000 season. Personal viewing crisis averted.

I recall that Hallman banned earrings and made the offense hold hands in the huddle.

I know one of the posters here played for Hallman (CharlesLSU or Chopique19 maybe?). He used to tell some pretty good Hallman stories here.

Hearing former players talk about him. Apparently he would at one minute quote Bible scripture then 2 minutes later cursing players out and stuff. Sounds kinda psycho to me.

I remember his first team meeting: there will be no long hair,no earrings, clean shaven in his redneck accent.

He was the speaker at the Birmingham Quarterback Club during an open date in 1994.Alabama and Auburn were unbeaten and had big wins that Saturday. Auburn's win was aided by a bad pass by Florida 's Terry Dean.A local sports guy --- who was NOT there --- put together a highlight reel of Ala and Aub win.
Remember, Hallman is on the dias front and center.Light dimmed, talking about the Auburn game. When Dean launches his eventual interception, the guy yells,"And Now it's time for the Curley Hallman BONE HEAD Play of the Game!! "
Place just broke up dying laughing as poor ol Curley sat there red as a beet.

You can thank Dinardo for his restaurant as we wouldn't have Ruffino's if not for it.

A former player told several stories bout him, basically calling him trailer trash morally. He said Hallman had several DL players over to help him move some furniture around on Sat. When the players arrived, he told them " my wife likes to look at big, sweaty men, so take your shirts off". Said that many times, late at nite, returning from being out, players would pass the old football office in TS, see the lights on in Hallman's office, music playing & Hallman obviously "entertaining". Another former player once saw him drunk at mid day at a strip club down on the Red Neck Riviera; this was after he was let go by LSU.

That is a pretty bad reason for leaving Louisiana. I have to believe that this is tongue in cheek. I would bet that it had to do more with Louisiana's economy at the time.

I also remember that many fans applauded it when Hallman took back the earrings. History gets revised after the fact.

It was bonehead, but it is also classless to that to anyone who is a speaker at your function. I was glad to see him go, but that is not how you treat someone who shows up to speak at your function.
A lot of drunk wannabes would piss in their pants if they were in that situation.

Hallman's wife eventually had time for 'Hot and sweaty men' as Hallman eventually got divorced for his actions. It is rumored that he had an affair with a female media personality in Baton Rouge at the time.

He was 7-4-1, 10-2, then 9-3 his first three years. Not just one good year.

Hallman at one point of his career, both at LSU & elsewhere, was giving old EWE's personal best record with the ladies a good run for the money. Point being, he did not cheat once & get caught once. More like in the high teens, low twenties.

Oh,i agree.it was awkward -- but you could not help but laugh.

According to the fan base today, there's not one good year in that stretch.

That was just good, old school Southern football culture right there. Curley was the last of a certain breed.
