we got one of the top recruiting classes in the nation in '01. not sure what to tell you if you think we still get that class without making a bowl game in '00.

2003 - uga, ole Miss, national championship

2007 - Florida, auburn, Alabama, national championship

2001 and 2005 were great too

2000 was a lot of fun and I was actually on the sidelines for the msu game. Wouldnt say it was the greatest season though

The MSU game in 2000 was a memorable game because it seemed like the players really took hold of the "pay no attention to the scoreboard" and just play the next play mantra. Before then, some of the teams would have folded when they got behind like that.

I also think that game never gets the attention it deserves when people are discussing crowd noise in Tiger Stadium. That night was awfully loud.

Shut up about this game... It wasn't THAT loud. And it's fricking State.

You're better than that.

That's the game where Toefield fumbled on the first TD and the game winner in OT both before he crossed to goaline.

I have this game on DVD. I got it from lsumac as someone mentioned. It was a great comeback against the Joe Lee Dunn defense. Down 14 in the fourth, LSU scored 21 straight to take the lead. State scored with under a minute left to force OT, which LSU obviously won.

Meanwhile, I have searched for the footage of the 1999 State game. That blown TD call for State is what keeps it from being 23-straight LSU wins in the series.

2000 was a lot of fun but the UAB and Arkansas games made me almost kill myself.

2000 was fun but it's difficult to top the second half of 2001. The monster offensive performance at Bama, then the four game run of Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee, Illinois.

A span of a five weeks saw our first ever division title, first conference title in 13 years, and first major bowl win In 31 years.

Following the 90s, after all the losing, that was a pretty special run. 10-3 is pretty average now, but back then it was a blast.

Yep, very bitter loss for Mississippi State fans. That year I was driving back to New Orleans from Starkville after watching Spurrier and Florida get destroyed. I listened to the Tennessee/LSU game, crowd roaring the whole game. Anyone who says that MSU game was not that loud is either a liar or an idiot. Loudest stadium I've heard and I've been to countless Saints games.

State drove the length of the field into the teeth of the lsu student section at the end of regulation. The offensive linemen later said they could not hear Madkin. Hell, I could not hear the woman sitting next to me. Sherrill should have gone for 2 at the end of regulation. The defense was dead tired. State blew 14 point leads twice that game. Bitter loss.

great recap.

i was at the tennessee game that year and it was patently obvious that nothing compares to TS. that's what i loved so much about that year: we got crushed at auburn, at arkansas, and embarrassed at florida, but were able to beat anyone in our house. it seemed tangible that the players were playing above their abilities with our insane crowd behind them.

it sounds funny saying this now, but i think we finally eclipsed y'all's program that night. is there any sense that OT loss started tDecline for y'all? didn't seem like joe lee dunn's defense in particular was ever the same after booty carved y'all up.

I MIGHT have it on DVD at the house and I agree with the sentiment that 2000 was a GREAT season, but not that it was the best ever

The 2 dudes that strolled on the field and mooned the Bama offensive huddle in 2000 was pretty awesome.

Exactly how were the '07 Va Tech, OSU, and USC games magical?? We out-talented those teams and wore them down in the 2nd half to win by more than 2 scores.

I thought they were. You mean to tell me that blowing out the highly-ranked, eventual ACC champion in a game that ended up effectively breaking the tie for the #2 spot in the final BCS rankings wasn't magical for you? Or coming back from an early deficit to roll over the #1 ranked team in the national championship?

I'll agree on USC, but that still leaves four games unchallenged (answering your challenge of three) and two others I still think hold. 2000 was a great start to the new era of LSU football, but I think 2007 was a more enjoyable, magical season without a doubt.
