My question is how did the runner at first never tag up, when the runner at second was able to tag from 2nd and make it ALL the way home?? Sounds to me like the runner at first passed the runner at second tagging. Thus making it an automatic out ending the inning. Case closed. Go back to the field and start extra innings.

I don't claim perfect recall but did ump for 9 years. I scrolled down and here is what I think is the best reasoning:
"That is not a "force".. the base runner messed up and left a base.. a "force" is when the base runner has to leave the base... since there was no force, the run counts."
the base runner at first was NOT forced to second because the ball was caught in the air. Contrast with a runner at first who, say, didn't run on a ground ball, watches a play at home, starts to celebrate and is thrown out at second. That would be a force out and the runner crossing home first would not matter. So, in your scenario, you have a time play and the run counts.

Agree.. Run counts...

There is a different scenario I have seen where the run would not count.
Two outs, runner on second base. Batter hit a gapper to right-center field and runner scores easily. Knowing the runner was going to score, and knowing it is a walk-off, the batter runs half-way to first base and the retreats towards home to start celebrating with the runner when he crosses home plate. Long after runner crosses home plate the right fielder throws the ball to first base to record the force out. Run doesn't count. Third out of the inning.
