Just curious if the two new QB's are impressing. I am counting on Jennings and Harris improving to the point that we don't have to worry this year. But if this year is a replay of last, Cameron has nowhere to go other than McMillan and Lewis.

Lol neither one of these guys has a shot of playing, even if our QBs played worse than they did last year

That's a pretty bold statement, considering QB recruiting evals are a complete crapshoot. McMillan could turn out to be a fantastic player and it really wouldn't be that shocking.

i don't think either of those QB's will play meaningful minutes while at LSU.

Early reports were pretty positive for McMillian, mostly from a mental side/work ethic position, but his pics show he needs to carry that enthusiasm to the weight room. Getting the mental aspect down is the toughest part, so the coaches like where he's at, from the sounds of things.

Then we heard how there was a new and improved Jordan Jefferson on the practice fields this spring. It started with Miles, but reporters joined the parade of propaganda. Not all of them, but enough of them. Amazingly, the fact that none of them actually saw Jefferson playing so well in practice did not stop them. Reporters are not allowed to watch at practice at LSU except the first few periods, which are usually just warm-ups and reveal little. But Miles and other coaches — both on and off the record — insisted this was a new Jordan Jefferson. Then we were told Jefferson threw four or five touchdowns — depending on which version of Miles Math you believe — in a closed scrimmage a week before the spring game.

quote:

And then on Saturday the new Jefferson looked exactly like the old Jefferson of 2010 as he completed just 4 of 14 passes for 102 yards with an interception and no touchdowns. Then we were told Jefferson is unquestionably the starter for the 2011 season. What is Jefferson to think? No matter how poorly he played virtually game after game through the first half of the 2010 season, he remained the starter.

quote:

Jefferson knows the system, we are told. And the system has not changed all that much under new offensive coordinator Steve Kragthorpe, who will mainly try to improve the quarterbacks' technique and streamline what has been a confused process. But how has Jefferson's knowledge of the system, which is going into its fourth year, improved LSU's passing offense? It hasn't.

quote:

Maybe the system should be changed. Maybe it has been so long since LSU has had a good quarterback, the fans, media, Miles and the LSU electorate no longer know what one looks like.

Now this was before Mettenberger started but it still holds the same weight, probably more so because we saw what a real QB is and then went right back to what wasn't working. As you can see, spring means jack shite other than the spring game itself foreshadowing more QB struggles despite the coach speak saying otherwise.

Exactly, only thing I've heard about the guy is huge arm, great football IQ, and excellent work ethic. Those three things mean a lot more to me than a star rating. I'm not saying stars don't matter, but at the QB position recruiting scout evaluations are very hit or miss, and Cam offered the kid on the spot.

Uh, it completely negates your entire point. You don't have to shite on every QB thread just as a point of pride.

Also, people are ragging on his size and he's just as big as Harris. Actually more full than Harris coming in. McMillan is a solid qb. It's no accident that he was the only guy we really pursued.

Glenn Guilbeau??

Guilbeau was wrong. He wrote that piece in April 2011. He was predicting that Jefferson's 2011 season would be a bad year like Jefferson's 2010 season, Jefferson's worst at LSU.

Except that in 2011, Jefferson improved significantly from 2010. Jefferson went on to have his best year at LSU, and LSU went on to beat every team they played.

Ohhhhh. I see what you are trying to say.

LOL@the dude comparing Harris and McMillan. This kid will not play under any circumstances this year. He's not physically developed enough to make any impact whatsoever.

Krag saw the field twice, you don't know who will get minutes here or there.

Neither of them will play significant time unless jennings and harris are hurt. Anyone who thinks otherwise is lying to themself

WTF does that mean? Have you ever seen Hodson? As a freshman? If it were you, he would have never been given a shot because of his weight.

Think before you type dumb stuff.

That being said, I know what Les is gonna do, and so do you. LSu will continue to go down the same qb road for 2 more years.....It's not the players, it's the head of the snake.

It is the same every year and fans fall for it because they are so starved for good news about our qb position, especially as the craving for football news in the off season make us forget just how bad the position was last year.

THat's why it is very appropriate to say JJ all over again....AJ is not like JJ......actually he's not as good (which is frightening).

This is Miles, deal with it and keep grinding those teeth. After game 2, the reality will set back in and you'll be sitting the whole game watching the sideline just praying you see a qb warming up. It will go on all year.

Our D will be strong and we will win on that along with LF pulling us out.

Spare me this bullshite. He went to manning passing academy and was getting praised saying he was the best qb there. It wasn't just Miles, it was people outside the program as well.

Both JJ and Lee improved from freshman year to senior year.

It wasn't just the Mannings either. IIRC Kirk Herbsreit or, some ESPN guy, was praising him as well. Do these people think that all of these guys were on the LSU payroll?

This conspiracy shite has got to stop. Now one thing I can kinda agree with, is how QBs look in the Spring game. Despite what people think, Harris didn't really play good in the spring game last year. First guy wasn't open, took off or threw it away. He was something like 11 of 30. Jennings also looked very bad, but he looked like an actual QB, just really bad decisions and accuracy.

Jennings reading of the defense was not the major problem, his huge problem was his decision making. He didn't know when to scramble. He almost always kept the ball on option plays, and because the WRs couldn't create seperation, he stayed in the pocket too long or just tried to force things of pass plays.

I think the accuracy will come the more he works with the pass catchers. The decision making is what he has to learn through scrimmages (where hopefully they get after him) and season game action.
