I wasn't a fan of the hire, but I don't think any coach would be fired after one season, probably not even two. After the first two years, the contract drops significantly. That's all I can come up with. Having said that, I don't think Alleva is qualified to make another hire. He needs to go if Orgeron doesn't work out.

Our AD is a complete idiot. Only explanation.
I'd really like to see him negotiate buying a car or something. He would pay list price plus give them the floor mats back along with the free oil changes and have them swap out for a lesser model and think he cut some kind of deal. What a stupid man

It's pretty standard.

There is a bigger problem if we hired a guy that isn't deserving of a normal contract.

O contract is only around 3 per year. And it's not like other schools wanted him, hell, he was UNEMPLOYED before he got the d line gig. If nothing else, why would the buy out be a dollar more than his base times 3 years? I would at least put some clause in it that if he looses more than 4 games a year, he can be fired for zilch or something - make him earn the money.

Alleva knew that if O was fired, he would be too. So he made it hard to fire O, to cover himself.

Only thing I can come up with.

O's agent raped us.

That's a good point about trying to prolong his time. Funny thing is that's not going to work. Alleva will be fired before the next season starts and the new AD can look for a new coach behind the scenes and Orgeron can be relieved when he flounders around again next year.

I think a 1 million dollar buyout would have been reasonable. If Coach O proved himself after two years of course the numbers would have changed. 12 million is a joke and shows Alleva does not have a clue to what he is doing when it comes to SEC football.

Alleva operates on emotion and feelings. Not logic.

I don't recruits care about buyout money. If the team is winning they know there won't be a change.

After last Saturday O has already cracked the top 10 on hot seat rankings, even with a 12 million dollar buyout

Alleva was afraid he would lose his job, with Os buyout so high he most likely will not be fired in first season even if he totally bombs
