Andy Staples sure doesn't think Miles to Mississippi

And any reasonable person would agree with his opinion.

From Will: Actual chances of Les Miles to Ole Miss? Roll Tide here, but love having that guy in conference.

I’d put it at zero.

There is a significant disconnect between fans and the people who hire coaches when it comes to Miles, and this isn’t just related to the Ole Miss job. Some fans look at the fact that Miles won a national title in 2007 and won the SEC in 2011 and figure that if he can do that, he’ll definitely make a traditionally less successful program better.
quote:
Athletic directors are much more likely to look at the more recent part of Miles’s body of work. With some of the nation’s best talent—the NFL draft bears this out—Miles went 12–10 in SEC play in his final three full seasons, and his offense seemed to regress with each passing year. After Miles fought off a coup at the end of the 2015 season, he was told by LSU athletic director Joe Alleva to modernize the offense. Miles chose not to. An AD is going to have two major issues with this series of events. First, it’s blatant defiance. Second, how did Miles not realize the game had passed him by on that side of the ball?
quote:
In the meantime, he says he isn’t going to be appearing on your television anytime soon. Since live radio hosting is probably out—clock management is critical in that endeavor—the best medium for Miles likely is a podcast.

Miles has no reason to join OM. They're looking for a longterm coach anyway.

Les is too busy counting LSU's money to worry about what Andy Staples thinks.

I think this guy is largely full of shite...Miles would kick some arse at Ole Miss under normal circumstances....he could recruit Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama.
That said, the rumors here in MS about Miles going to OM have cooled considerably since last week...I hope the pending sanctions facing that school are enough to keep him away.

eh, they're looking for a coach to get them through probation. their options will be very limited. My guess is Matt Luke gets the job and they'll reevaluate once they're done with probation. No one worth anything is taking that job any time soon. Not even a has been like Miles will waste his time as old as he is now.

who is he going to recruit to go to Ole Miss under sanctions? any program would struggle in that scenario, regardless of coach and regardless of program, much less ole miss. if they weren't going to be on probation, then sure he'd probably be a slight pain in the arse to deal with on the recruiting trial, but that won't be the case.

Member when we were talked down to about Miles? How we just wanted him fired because he couldn't beat Bama. That firing him would be a huge mistake and teams would be falling over themselves to hire such a great coach?
I member.
I member.

While A issue, that's not THE issue. The issue is that ADs don't have confidence that he could reproduce the recruiting success at their school that he did at LSU. If Ole Miss thought they could hire a guy who could do that, despite the shortcomings listed above, they'd hire him in a heartbeat.
A guy who would load the cupboard, win a lot (no championships), represent the school well (in light of their recent issues) for the next 5 years would be a home run type of hire for them.

Miles is 64 and I honestly don't think his health these days is conducive to college coaching and it's demands. Hell, I'm not even sure he wants to coach anymore, but he has to continue the ruse to collect on his severance I'm told.
And I think most folks who would do hiring at the major college level see these things the same way.
IMHO he had his day and his successes. Hid best days as a football coach are behind him.

Ole Miss needs to hire a coach with character not a Kiffin

they have no reason to do anything but that.
Gives them time to evaluate G-5 coaches like Mike Norvell, Frank Wilson,Scott Satterfield, chad morris and scott frost. Basically what LSU should have done instead of banking on Ed O.
Ole Miss will pay well so they will get someone to coach there.

No. Staples is saying what is evident to everyone. The media loved Miles because he was a clown and easy comedy.
As Staples said his recent body of work which is totally unimpressive. He won't have the recruiting cache' of LSU. No way Ole Miss is going from Freeze's dynamic offense to Les Miles style of ground and pound.
Miles isn't getting another big time gig.
Think about it. If you produce consistent Top 10 finishes at LSU, with it's fertile recruiting environment and resources, how are you going to win at East BFE U?
That said I would love for Ole Miss to land him.

So did opposing fan bases. No Koke, they thought we were crazy to fire him.
