Look this is very simple.

Teams we played pre Alabama were not strong.
We all had an over inflated opinion on how good LSU was.
We played hard vs Bama but they are better.
Letdown vs ark and got beat.

I don't believe ole miss is better than last year and I don't believe lsu is worse. MEMO: LSU won.
Still have good chance to win last two.
We are young team that will be better next year.

Biggest concern I have is the downturn in talent LSU has in the trenches.
Both sides of the ball, defense in particular.

Wtf has happened to Godchaux and Neal? Seriously they are non factors.

LSU needs to get off this dbu Schtick and get back to big boy football.

Thanks for posting about Dinardo.

He really was not as bad as Miles. He brought back the magic, but soon shite the bed his last year. They forget where he brought us from. Do I want Dinardo back? Hell no, but what is everyone's fascination about Miles? He lost us a National Championship by not trying, he won a Natty with Saban's players, and other than that, he's just barely won with a turd of an offense. My point is that we didn't give Gerry much of a chance, why do we keep giving Leslie chances? (Sunshiners please none of the 'winningest coach bullshite' please more than half of those are to snapperhead OOC opponents).

Not as good as you thought. Our dline always gave up 2-3 yards per play. Didn't work on our passing game. Tons of penalties, poor clock mgmt. the list is long.

Passing plays, penalties and clock management didn't do us in. Inability to rush the ball and stop the run did. It went from great to shite in 1 week. I can understand the defense being a lil worn down, but the oline? Seriously wth happened?

Les Miles didn't go 4-7. He lost us a national title? LSU isn't even in that game with out Miles. So I guess it's better to never win the sec than lose a title game? Dinardo was not a good coach.

Teams with good Coaches they get better as the year goes on, Miles teams do not, this man has left more on the table than any coach in LSU history. Our past coaches did not have the luxury of following Saban. They did not have the big budget coaching staffs and Ac Centers, Miles has had great Asst Coaches, big budgets, great recruiters in a talent rich state. He is An AVERAGE COACH at BEST. and I know the posti-losers would prefer to lose with him than WIN with anybody else

Good post VB. I predicted 9-3 and 10-2 best with an outside shot at sneaking wins vs. Auburn (when I thought they would be good pre-season LOL), Ole Miss or Bama. There is something that needs to be fixed. And I'm talking about the mental framework of this team. Still a Tiger forever of course and will always look for the positives. Wish the best for Les. But, LSU comes first.

Did you believe we were a 17-point loss to Arkansas in Tiger Stadium bad?

I didn't. It's the way we are losing now.

There were plenty of dumbasses that didnt want to get rid of Dinardo either. Same old "who can we get that is better" BS.

Team is average at best at DT. LSU hasn't had a great defense (and in return a championship season) in the Saban/Miles era without a great DL. We have recruited pitifully at DT. Gaping hole and were hoping freshman will come in and change things

BS, we aren't in that game without Mathieu and that game stealing defense. That team got there in spite of Miles not because of him.

DiNardo got 5 seasons, 1995-1999. He was 4-7 then 2-9 in his last two years. NO ONE defended him nor wanted him to stay by mid-1999 season.

Les has deficiencies no doubt. But do not compare him to Gerry DiNardo who was TERRIBLE and had two losing seasons. Believe me, 8-5 is way better than 2-9.

Nah we were never really that good. Never playoff caliber. The running game masked a lot. And yes the team is young in some areas. But...the team is young every year due to early departures and the offense just doesn't ever improve. So while I expected 9-3, the program should be better where we expect more.

Probably the biggest issue is the early departures. LSU replaces juniors with freshmen. Bama replaces seniors/juniors with seniors/juniors.

Just think....could have an innovative coach that lost to Utah in his first game and needed OT to beat a weak Big 10 opponent.

We lost to Arkansas and Alabama. We still have a chance to go 6-2 in SEC play....which likely ties us for 2nd in the SECW. Losses to a Top 4 national team and a game we let get away from us to a pretty decent Arkansas team.

So, if we are predicted to go 4-8 and we end up going 5-7, should we throw a party? I hate the "We are what we thought we were " logic.

I always laugh when people talk about "remember the Dinardo years". People forget that Dinardo had good teams up until his final season. That last season, when our offense was awesome but, the defense was worst in the league, is what did him in. But, I enjoyed the Dinardo years myself. During his time here we were.......

Yeah, it was just great watching us get skull-fricked by Ole Miss and Kentucky those final 2 years.

The 2-9 season was Hallman's, not DiNardo's.

I understand your points. Very thoughtful.

Arky's coach's team dominated Miles's team two years in a row. The Hogs improved over the course of the season. LSU got worse.

LSU's talent level is vastly superior to Arky's if you go by the Recruit Class rankings.

Bielema has been on the job at Arky for a few years. Miles has been on the job at LSU for a decade.

Any rational observer of football would expect LSU to win one of these games against the Hogs. Any rational person would expect LSU to be competitive in both games.

IMHO, your objective view is clouded by sentimentality. Sentimentality should not be a part of the analysis.
