yes, and don't forget re-hiring Peveto as DC when Aranda heads to Texas!

Why? We still have a top 5 class with no OC and in the middle of a coaching change.
That never happens

Let's see how much you enjoy watching LSU football over the next couple of years. Get ready for 7-5 or 8-4 type seasons. Maybe 9-3 if we get lucky. We won't sniff the SECCG. Then Alleva, if he's still around, will be forced to pull the plug on the failed Coach O experiment. Meanwhile, Texas will rise from the ashes under Herman as we continue to be a non-factor in the SEC race and on the national scene.

Trent Johnson, Patrick Murphy, and Beth Torina screwed him up in the head. He got a "big hire" in Trent and it feel flat. He got a "big hire" in Murphy who then he played Alleva and he followed that up with a secondary hail mary that worked out fabulously. Now he's skipping the big money embarrassment and just trying to land the cheap hail marys.

So you freaking idiots keep harping on Alleva not hiring two guys we had no chance of getting.

or you could have read my entire post where i said we should have at least interviewed some of the guys between the top 2 and O.

and anyone who things O was the hands down 3rd best choice on the market is a fricking moron.

Well I guess lsu should just realize that we don't belong with the big boys. We are scared to compete.

Exactly, his "big hires" have failed as badly as his settle hires if not worse. Torina would probably be considered a settle hire an appears to be his one and only successful one.

AD's will ultimately be judged on hiring, that's just a fact....fair or not. And JA does not have a good track record at all to this point.

O of course as the football coach and the most important hire by far will decide his fate.

I just hate that he will very well likely be the man heading a new hoops search very soon. Think he'll still have Collis on the search committee?

I hope some of you know, Alleva isn't spending LSU money, but PRIVATE TAF MONEY. They have a BIG say in how it's spent.

Micah Gibbs as hitting coach instead of going after a guy with similar background as Andy

Decent thread and premise...but this is a terrible example. Obviously this is Mainieri's decision which was complicated due to the timing of Cannizaro's departure.

Another terrible example. If this happens it's because O decided to do this.

You cheapened your argument by using two terrible examples.

Why interview someone you know you aren't going to hire?

Call it scared if you like but like it or not LSU is well behind Texas in how much we can pay for a coach.

Alleva is intimidated by anyone with ability.

He would have been intimidated as shite with Herman or Fisher here.

Hence his "heartwarming" hires--giving a chance to someone who will be grateful:

JJ: the longtime assistant-LSU guy, who despite the lackluster showing at UNT would be passionate about "given the chance," according to Alleva.

CEO: no long explanation needed, the "Cajun" that hoodwinked JA with the bullshite story about his "dream job." But Alleva would rather deal with a "lovable clown" than a Tom Herman or, god forbid, Saban.

Torina: was hired with the same paradigm from FIU, but fortunately worked out wonderfully. If she ever leaves, we'll see the same Alleva pattern.

No we won't because Beth will be here longer than Alleva. Hopefully.

A 2nd tier coach or a guy like Fleck would have been an astronomically better hire than someone who has a 10-25 all time record and couldn't get AN INTERVIEW AT ANY OTHER UNIVERSITY.
Plenty of people would put O, in THIS situation, over those 2nd tier people.

That should be hugely concerning to some of you.
I didn't want O to get the job.

I hate joe as much as the next guy, but this simply isn't true. Johnson was COTY in two conferences and had done great things at Stanford. He was a good hire on paper at the time.

Harbaugh makes $9 million or so. Saban $6.9 million. LSU can easily afford either of those salaries, and could match anything Texas would offer to pay a coach. It's not like Texas was going to offer $20 million per year for Herman. The only thing LSU couldn't match is the same thing Texas wouldn't be able to afford if they wanted to hire O, and that's the "dream job" incentive.

ETA: I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Alleva offered Jimbo $6.8 million for 5 years, and Sexton countered with 10 years, standard negotiating, but Alleva has no balls and just walked. If Alleva really wanted what's best for LSU football, and wanted to take the program to the next level, he would've gotten a deal done with Jimbo. Jimbo would've happily retired at LSU.
