I haven't been on here in a while... and I know there are probably other threads about this... but for the sake of brevity.... someone tell me what's going on with Lange. He seems to be struggling. As I see it, the success of the season pretty much rests on him being dominant.

His fastball is flat. Teams just need to sit dead red on his fastball to beat him. He can't locate the strike zone with any other pitch with consistency. Therefore, lots of walks and hard hit baseballs.

Thanks for your reply. I keep reading that he needs to develop a 3rd pitch. Just asking... he's been at LSU 3 years... why hasn't that already happened... develop a 3rd pitch, that is.

He has a changeup but it just takes time to develop it to be effective against this competition. He has the third pitch he and Dunn just don't trust it is developed enough. Lange is a good pitcher he just lacks consistency of the guys we've had in the past here.

he has been working on his change up. he doesn't seem to trust it. Lange is struggling with what the first poster said and has probably lost his confidence right now. he's always been so dominant that it is very difficult to conclude that he has to make some changes. the college hitters have adjusted to his "nasty" curve and are laying off of it and sitting on his fast ball. if and when he learns to throw strikes with his off speed stuff he'll be OK and start throwing strikes with his fast ball too.

He is having trouble locating his curveball like he has his whole career. BEFORE I GET MY ARSE REAMED. He mostly throws it in the dirt. The teams have scouting reports on pitchers and they see that. They are all now sitting dead red fastball and from there a pitcher can throw it 102, and it will look like a damn beach ball up there.

Lange needs better command of all his pitches. Like you said you can't just blow FBs by SEC type hitters, you have to throw on the black, in and out and up and down.

Command the fastball first, and mix up the curve ball by pitching with a pitchers count.

Laying that FB in there will bring trouble.

Even if you paint the corners with only a fastball you will still get shelled.

Painting the corners moving the ball in and out up and down is far better than leaving a fastball on the white, right?
