Belle's numbers are borderline Hall of Fame. If he hadn't miffed so many people off, he might be in. Saw him put one on top of Memorial Gym at Vandy.

A stat of his that often gets overlooked. Helluva a list of players that he joined at the time.

“Belle became the fourth player to have eight straight seasons of 30 home runs and 100 RBIs, joining Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx and Lou Gehrig”.

Belle was considered surly because he was a reformed alcoholic. He was from the worst projects in Shreveport and was an alcoholic by the time he was 12 years old. Most of his friends at that age were dead when he was 18. It was considered one of the worst project housing in the US if not the worst.

He was a reformed alcoholic but was really nervous around people because of it and he wanted mostly to be left alone and was considered surly because he refused interviews. The man had problems most people never have and never understand.

He had issues.

Definitely one of the most batting stances I used in my whiffle ball games as a kid in the 90’s. Probably second after Canseco and Ripken or Gonzalez being 3rd.

I’d also like to point out that he really , really honed his craft. He was a cold killer on the field. We are talking about him years after he retired. We remember his raw power and the fact that he is one of the baddest men we have ever seen. Not one of us would challenge him. Does that not make him worthy of our respect ? I absolutely loved him on the field and was amazed at the passion he brought to the game. And those Cleveland teams were so fun to watch. So Team Albert.

I heard that story as a child and one day in college I was telling it to a state fan and turns out it was his dad.

Maybe he didn't have the temperament to handle the small minded A holes verbally attacking him, but that doesn't make him Psycho.
It appears you have a lot in common with those fans.

I didn’t remember you were from that area.

DS in my class knew both well. He was a grad asst coach at Airline one year waiting to be accepted. We visited Todd when LSU played in the Dome first series back then.

I knew Terry at LSU. We talked a lot about baseball history. He wasn’t abrasive like Joey LOL

I agree with you, but the media doesn't see it that way. If you don't play ball with them, they will crush you. Oh, and to the other guy, corked bat, schmorked bat. The guy at his prime in the majors was every bit as effective as the greats of his day. Period.
