Idk why you would pick Spurrier over Miles. He hasn't even won the SEC in the last 8 years. Miles is clearly a better coach.. and no need to say that Miles has better resources, go to where the resources are, kinda like the oil companies in the Middle East. No excuses, just results and the results speak for themselves. Miles is a better coach. (and I consider recruiting completely part of the coaching aspect.)

Spurrier as long as we could have Chavis as D-Coordinator

I know this probably doesn't matter, but Miles is 3-0 v. Spurrier, including a road win in our worst year with Miles. Miles handed Spurrier his first loss last year.
SAYS IT ALL IN THIS ONE!!

Spurrier is great, and has a great press conference. So many great lines come out of his press conferences. Such as, "I love playing Georgia early in the sason because they always have two or three of their best players suspended."
Or against Tennessee, "Oh heck, I have coached more games at Vol Stadium that their last three coaches."

Not even a question... Spurrier hands down. After what he's done at SC, it would have been amazing to see what he could do with Louisiana talent.

I love Miles and think Spurrier is a huge dick*, but Spurrier in his prime was a better strategist and game day coach. He's too lazy/arrogant to recruit well (I sympathize, as I hate the way recruiting works in CFB), but he was a hell of a coach.
*I know that some of you believe that a 102-year- old man acting like a 28-year-old aging frat douche is cute, but he's pretty terrible.

Spurrier. I think he is a better coach than Saban. But Saban is a better recruiter.

What Spurrier did at Florida when he was winning would not work in the SEC today. He played a wide open offense, but not as much defense. He has changed his ways somewhat at Carolina, and now has a more balanced team. But I agree, he has not beaten Miles yet.

In their primes I would take Spurrier over Les or Saban.

Les Miles 10/10 times. Miles has the best record in LSU history.

I have no reason to believe Spurrier would beat Saban with an LSU team.

I dont get that Miles is a bad game day coach. If so how has he won 94 games? What does that say about the other coaches he beat to get to 94? They just fell asleep that day at let les out coach them? Further proof is not all 94 wins were we leading from start to finish. At some points adjustments were made to win those games.

Which coach would you have at LSU while they were in their prime, Miles or Spurrier?
It's conjecture a Spurrier team from his prime would fare as well today.
So keeping that in mind, get back to me after a Spurrier team beats a Miles team for the first time.

This is the nuttiest thread I have seen in a long time. It seems folks want to compare Miles now to the Spurrier of 10-15 years ago.
Spurrier had a great run at Florida...innovative offense...good defense...great players...that was then, this is now. Steve Spurrier is a shell of his former self now. He's not even running the same offense he ran at Florida. He's at a school that has a harder chance of winning a NC than other SEC schools, including LSU. There's only so much blood he can get out of the Gamecock turnip. Hell, he can't even get one of the top players in the country to not take games off during the kid's last season of college football that would surely have made him the top pick in the draft and possibly win the Heisman Trophy as a defensive player. (Spurrier has lost control of his superstars) And hasn't Miles beat him head up twice ?
Saban is Saban...certainly the best in college football today, but even then, Miles has had some success against him.
Let Miles coach, for God's sake. He on the cusp of assembling possibably one of the best recruiting classes in college football history. As I write this, one of Saban's prized recruits from Louisiana has decommitted to reassess his decision. Who knows, he may come here and bring somebody with him !
For years, all we heard was that Bear Bryant said "if he had LSU's second string, he could win an NC every year", but has anyone actually found the quote and when/where he said that?
For some strange reason, I believe Miles has a few more championships in him here at LSU. Our competition for the SEC west may be Auburn or Ole Miss instead of Bama (I hope so).
All I'm saying is if you are going to compare Miles to other coaches, compare him to current coaches and their current performance, not what they did 10-15 years ago.

Spurrier is the best pure coach in the SEC. Gameday coaching and prep, he does them very well. He just isn't the best recruiter (not to say he's bad).
Miles and Saban are just nex level for recruiting. Top of the board. Miles just sucks at Gameday coaching and Saban is decent so Saban has an advantage over Miles.
That said, I would take SS in his prime over miles and Saban over either.

Didnt Saban stringing us along cost us a shot at Spurrier and like 2 others? Miles was a 'get somebody in here now to keep recruits' guy. Kinda the best of what was left over I thought. I also thought this was one of the reasons for the bad feelings.
