That is true but it's not a wide margin. 6.7 ypp in both 2015/16 and this year it's 6.3 ypp. It's a small sample and we haven't faced the better teams yet but with this oline I was surprised to see our Ypp so high.

With so many struggles on the OL, I have wondered why we haven't seen more of Cushenberry and Deculus.

You.never.give.up.the.middle.

It's basically the golden rule of being an offensive lineman

Stop motioning the linemen! It's not working

Here lies the problem of the 2017 ypp.
Even the team thought to have tough D was fools gold.

Maybe I should contact the administrators.

Ace-great analysis. Feels like a very educated analysis. What would say about missed assignments/getting beat at the line on running plays? Our issues with the OL extend beyond pass blocking.

I wish Todd McClure was coaching these boys. Plus he is just a good ole boy who would kill it on recruiting trail. He has young kids so doesn't want to be away and don't blame him. Plus he loves raising bulls and selling antique wood.

Very insightful analysis. The line has been in a state of flux since fall camp opened with defections and injuries. Its always difficult to get true freshman to play consistently in the offensive line. Hopefully a couple more games will get them to see the game better and make the correct adjustments. This team could look vastly different in a few weeks if the line can develop into a more cohesive unit.

I don't recall what McClure said specifically about the run blocking, other than just missed assignments - like on one play both players got to the second level, leaving the outside linebacker free to come in and make the TFL. Similar to the pass blocking issue - but I think we are run blocking better than pass blocking, relatively speaking, although our yards per carry, overall, are down this year.

I think it's a matter of balance and coaching. We're too aggressive in pass blocking and not aggressive enough in run blocking. If the assignment issues are cleaned up - and I think this can be done by SEC play, the offense is going to look a lot better. I think we had fewer breakdowns in individual technique (hand placement, leverage, etc.) versus Cuse than MSU - but Cuse is not as good in the trenches as MSU, so that may be misleading.

It is Oline assignment - again, what Clapp at C was supposed to mitigate - that appears to need the most work at this time. Getting all 5 down lineman on the same page for the play should be priority #1.

Any word on Deculus? Is he just too inexperienced to get some time?

We don't have a SEC caliber LT to offset speed rush of DE's in this conference.

I'm all for moving Clapp back to LG and Brumfield over to RG with Cush at C, give that a look.

A lot of it is play calling too. One 3rd and 1 in our own territory we went to a goal line formation where we were absolutely running the ball and were tackled for loss because Syracuse had everyone in the box. Miss. St. had the perfect call when we sold out and stacked the box and threw over the top. We showed no signs of anyone to throw to. Mike Leach would have gone 5-wide and spread everybody out and would have found the way to run the ball for 5 yards, but we ran into a wall. The play calling has been garbage to go with really poor line play.

I don't disagree with that. We were effective enough against BYU, with a very limited selection of plays. We were told, "10% of the call sheet was used" in that game. Fine. We need to see more of it now.

Like ASAP.
