Ludwig will exclusively play the 4 when he's in. Derenbecker is a perimeter player who will eventually be a very good 3-point threat for us. He's shown he can compete at every level (1a, 5a, AAU) The only similarities between Ludwig and Derenbecker are their skin color and their high school (Country Day). It literally ends there.

There are a few white kids.

Ludwig looked like Ludwig. Sorta goofy, but fundamentally sound.

Darrenbecker didn't play a whole lot, but he's similar to Ludwig with fundamentals and such.

Green is a big body, hopefully will produce a little bit this year. I think he out rebounded White and Storm combined, and played less minutes.

Hamilton and Del Piero or whatever it is, didn't play.

Dennis Harris was with one crutch on the bench as well.

Derenbecker is a much better all-around player than Ludwig and will show it as he gets use to the speed of the college game. He has a nice stroke from outside.
Green was much more aggressive on the boards than previous years and will be an asset if he keeps his back healthy.
DelPiero is a real project and probably won't play much this year unless there are some major blowouts.
Hamilton is a transfer and ineligible this season. Saw him last year and he is similar in ability to White.

Green did a good job on the boards Friday, but he is still WAY too passive for me. He's 7 feet tall and has five fouls to use, every game.

He just needs to go out there and push people around, challenge shots, etc.

At his size, NOBODY should get an easy layup around him, and it happened a few times on Friday.

He drives me crazy sometimes. It was good to see some improvement from him, though. Hope it keeps up throughout the season.

It irritates me when people act like Derenbecker hasn't played anyone in high school. Maybe not at Country Day, but the dude played AAU and showed up several times in several tournaments. He played for about five minutes in the first game. It takes many players time to get acclimated to the speed of the game, regardless of where you went to high school. Glen went to U-High. Give me a break, it's basketball, and you're largely judged on your play in the tournaments, camps, and AAU circuit ball. Nobody went and evaluated the kid at Country Day and thought, "man, this dude plays against a bunch of scrubs, we're not going to sign him." Look at Storm, look at Dotson. Both guys took time to develop for different reasons. But the point remains, Derenbecker is going to be a very good player, and we can't expect every person to dawn the purple and gold play like all-americans immediately.

How did Malcom White do?

Also, I'm looking forward to see what Stringer can do. Saw some of his high scool film and he's a shooter!

Trent Johnson has already stated that he will not play at all this season

It is hard to change focus in the middle of a great football season but I am hoping that our roundball Tigers bring it this year. Planning to take over the Rice gym on December 29.

Hard to say after one game, but:

Pretty clear that the starters will be stringer, dotson, turner, white and warren.

Bass and derenbecker will prob see substantial minutes in the backcourt rotation. Ludwig and green subbing in the frontline. Once harris gets healthy, we may see some stringer, turner, warren, white, harris lineups when coach johnson needs a big lineup.

With everyone healthy, he will be able to put some interesting combos on the floor, depending on the matchup for that particular night.

White is great around basket, and a fearless shot blocker. So far it looks like his range is about 6 feet unfortunately. The little I saw of storm looked great. He lloks very confident with the 12 foot jumper and posting up.

This will definitely be a guard dominated offense, with a lot of hi/low post screens between whatever two forwards are in the game.

The thing I like most about this team so far is that stringer, dotson and turner all showed an affinity for effective dribble penetration. When you can get defenses to collapse and have 2-3 shooters to kick it too....you can compete with almost anyone...

Defense sucks so far, by the way. Everyones footwork looked terrible in the first game, except for bass.
