I'm coming to town with my tennis playing kids this weekend and was thinking of taking them over to the new tennis center. But I didn't want to make the trip if it is all going to be locked up. Anyone know what kind of access there is this time a year? Even if it is just walking around and checking out the courts? TIA

I asked the same thing about getting on the football field with my little ones. Run a couple of drills, I was thinking Big Cat drill to start. They had it locked up and wouldn’t let us in. Actually called the cops on us. Embarrassing… I know.

I was there last night. It's a beautiful facility. Walk in the front door and ask the student at the front desk if you can walk around. They might let you play for a fee. Not sure. I know local rec tennis teams pay to have their matches there. Which is awesome because it's indoors!

Try emailing or texting LSU Director of Tennis Ops, Ben Hershey. He can be reached at
bhersh1@lsu.edu or (703) 615-4510. (This info is on his bio on lsu sports.net).

Are the old tennis practice courts still open? I see them driving by on Nicholson, just no clue on condition.

Before the new tennis facility on Gourrier opened, they would leave the practice courts open year round. And didn't care if people used them as long as long as the team wasn't actively using them.

Eta: not sure about playing, but I don't see why a smaller sport like tennis should object to letting someone check out the new facility since the season is over.

This is good advice. It’s been my experience that the non-revenue sports actually allow more engagement and like to show off the sport to younger fans.
