I hope I have placed this in the appropriate forum, first of all.

As a Colorado Buffalo fan I wanted to take a few minutes to thank the LSU/BR community for basically giving me the “voice of sports” when I was growing up.

Larry Zimmer is a product of BR and grew up a LSU fan.

Life choices and opportunities brought him to the front range of Colorado where he has been the Play by Play man and also the color commentator for both the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Buffaloes for decades.

Zim, as we call him around here, is no longer calling games. He does some pregame memory pieces and that’s about it these days.

Some of you old timers may remember this but, Zim called his first game for CU at LSU in ‘71.

LINK

Zim became a broadcasting legend because of his love for the game and watching LSU football games. And thus, made a huge impact on my life and the game of college football I hold dear.

LSU, under Les Miles, also took on one of Bill McCartneys grand children as a walk on QB. LM was a coordinator under coach Mac a CU. He got Sal Anusee. to play QB at CU. Mac told LM when he went to recruit Sal, “if you don’t come home with that kid, make your home there.” Sal was the father of that kid that walked on at LSU.

Anyway, sorry to take up your time. I just wanted to express my thanks to the LSU/BR community for what they gave CU football. I’ve never been to DV but I really hope CU gets LSU on the schedule for a home and home.

One more from Larry Zimmer...

Thanks for letting me borrow a little bit of your time.

As a backup during the Jefferson/Lee era, TC McCartney got way more attention/name recognition than you probably realize

OUCH - that’s tough game for Tiger fans to recall. Colorado came into Tiger Stadium and kicked our a$$ that night.

Thanks for sharing, really enjoyed reading about those connections and what they mean to you.

My grandfather played football for CU way back in the day, and I have a cousin that was on the CU ski team a few years ago. Much love for the Buffs!

I appreciate your love of the game. I used to pull for Colorado when I would see them on TV. It seems like we rarely get to see any of their games anymore. Good luck on your season.

Perhaps so. Can’t say I’ve been following Tiger football a ton. I just knew the story.

Anyway, thanks for the kind responses. I just wanted to share. Zim was a fixture of my youth. I’m glad it touched a few people. Still can’t get over the last few minutes of the Nebraska game in ‘86 and his call. Still get chills.

Sorry guys... I get caught up. Take care.

Thanks for the kind words, neighbor. Although I root hard for my Tigers, it would be great if the Buffs could give us something to cheer about locally, again.

It's been a long time.....

Cliff Branch (RIP) ran wild and I think Bert Jones threw a ton of interceptions.

If you ever get go express our appreciation to Zim, please do. You and he and your families are welcome anytime. It would be great to have a recognition of you both as Tiger aficionados. We have an AD now who could appreciate the history.

I was a CU ticket holder for a decade through Coach Mac, Neuheisel and Coach Barnett. I remember talking to Hale Irwin’s brother and he told me about playing in Tiger Stadium. Baton Rouge AND Boulder will always be my homes. Zim is the best ! Geaux Buffs ! Shoulder to shoulder we will fight fight fight! Now if they play the Tigers though...

I never got to see CB play. My dad got season tickets in ‘72. I was born in ‘73.

I have heard the stories about his athleticism. He was truly a special player.

But, yes. He passed away in the last week or so. By all accounts, he was a very nice person as well. RIP
