A reason why I'm not over worries about a new DC hire.

I, along with the majority of the fan base, do not want stoops to be hired. But if push comes to shove and we do hire stoops or a lesser known/not as qualified coach I'm not losing any sleep over it because here's why:
1. LSU recruits defensive players well. The name DBU didn't come to us for no reason.
2. Raymond is the defensive back coach and he has done well for us since his hire.
3. We have play makers all over the field. Them using their natural instinct alone will help them to make big plays and retain the DBU status.
Now, as long as our D line developes well, I do believe that our defense will still be top 25 nationally.

Hmmm, you must have repressed the Mallory/Peveto years. I wish I could. Neat trick.

Actually, I would take Stoops over Haley or Steele, but they all make me

Nope

I'm liking the Clark angle. We can only hope he doesn't frick this up. His continued employment with LSU depends on it

Was he interviewed? I have heard his name mentioned, but it sounded like wishful thinking.

Yep. This is a make or break hire for Miles.

I don't think anyone is predicting this for what it's worth.

I think LSU is going to hire former UAB head coach Bill Clark as the next DC on Thursday. Strong suspicion this is going to take place.

Sounds like you think the DC has no impact on the defense because:

1) we get great defensive players that really need no coaching;

2) we have Raymond

Yea, I'm still worried.

You're not over your worries. So you're still worried? English and adverbs (overly worried) are your friends.

I read his bio. Looks like he would have a ton of connections in Alabama, but what makes you think he would get hired?

Hearing a lot of chatter tonight that there is a lot of mutual interest. Word is that he has a lot of qualities that Les is looking for.

DC is nothing but an Assistant Coach and works for Miles and follows Miles orders. There was a time no one cared who the Assistant Coaches were just the Head Coach.

That's real specific. Thursday, huh?

I wouldn't mind Bill Clark. He is an up and comer with solid credentials.

I just don't want Steele, Haley or Stoops. We have seen what they have to offer at DC and it isn't very good.

I honestly don't know why we are even thinking about Haley, Stoops or Steele. How did we not get Pendergast & Coach O when they were ready to accept the job...

Hmmm, who were the upperclassnen that year? Oh wait the 04 and 05 classes. The classes where nicks recruiting fell off because he had one foot out the door. In 05 we had 8 commits before Les was hired and finished with 13, one being RP. I believe that class was ranked #22, but if not for rp it wouldn't have been a top #25 class. Something we have never had under miles.

So I can factually say that defense was lacking in talent other than a few young players Les brought in. One being, Patrick Peterson.

That will not be the case for any d coordinator we hire for this season.

Haley

Since then he worked under Gailey and tenuta at ga tech.

Croom and Johnson at state.

Then smith and babich at the bears.

For the past six years making the calls on the sideline for chavis at LSU.

So in those 15 years you are telling me he learned absolutely nothing? Really?

I still think we may get shoops. But if not, I'll take Haley and coach o. With that combo we still recruit well, and at least still run what we ran under chavis.

Fans were underwhelmed by this short guy LSU hired from Michigan State 15 years ago.

The talent level on defense in 2008 also had to do with fairly lackluster recruiting on the defensive side in 2006 and 2007. Very few contributors.

That 2003 (no. 1), 2004 (no. 2), 2005 (no. 22), classes were upperclassmen and big contributors when Les won his NC.

I get that you are saying it is mostly about the Jimmys and Joes, not the Xs and Os, but are you seriously arguing that Bradley Dale Peveto and Doug Mallory were a good idea?

If so, we already got BDP and I hear Mallory is available.
