If Ryan Perrilloux hadn't been a perpetual frick up and forced Miles to kick him off the team, would this have altered the course of Miles career? RP was a gifted athlete and I thought he was destined for greatness. It was almost like after the Jarrett Lee pick six fest of 2008, that Miles never trusted a QB again, other than Mettenberger. No flame intended, just an honest question.

Fair question and the opinion of many.

Yes, I strongly believe this. The only question is whether or not 1/9/12 would've still happened with Lee and JJ, and ultimately miles would've still been broken.

I believe had Les let Dak Prescot play QB at LSU, we would most probably had another NC and Les would still have his job. I like the guy, but glad he's not HC any longer.

Never will understand why Lee didn't come off the bench on 1-9-12. Bama was in the zone that night and not sure it would've mattered who was under center for LSU but no possible way could Lee have been worse than JJ.

Very fair question and I think it altered his path some

But even more so was BAMA getting a rematch.

You believe Ryan Perrilloux could have overcome the Maleveto Meercat defense?

He would have never developed or progressed. Just look at all the qb talent that has come through since then. It's mostly about the head coach and the o/c and more importantly what the head coach lets the o/c do. Alabama is 4-0 with a freshman qb and other schools are doing it too. When Cam was hired I think that we all thought we had a real chance at developing a qb with his nfl experience with Brees, Flacco, and Rivers. Obviously Les didn't let him. Thats the only explanation. I liked him as a person but the qb has to do more than hand the ball off.

I've always believed this planted the seed to this non-trust QB issue. Miles exacerbated it by projecting that trust issue onto everyone around the program... especially the OCs and following QBs.

Yes I watched 9-6 and grant you that Lee struggled and JJ was the difference maker in that game. But JJ's performance on 1-9-12 set a new low for QB play in a title game. For all we know, Lee could've thrown a pick six on the first play. But at least give him a chance to spark the offense. JJ was just abysmal.

In response to the OP's question, in all likelihood it did. Here's why.

From somewhere after the UF loss in '06 through '08 Les was willing to play aggressively on O (else, the Crowton hiring makes makes no sense). The '08 int fest doomed that. Had Ryan played in '08, I think we beat UGA, Bama, and Arky. I don't think we would have beat UF in the Swamp. OM would have been a toss-up (OM was playing really well down the stretch in '08).

But our O would have rocked in '08 - good OL, great group of WR's, and good RB's. If after a prolific '08 O, it would have been more etched in Les's psyche that it's ok to play aggressively on O.

Whether Perrilloux stayed or not, it is unlikely we would have seen an int fest in '09. And if not, it would be reasonable to think Les would take a different tack.

I agree but you said it couldn't be worse but hell yeah it could have been. Alabama whipped the dogshit out of our OL and you wanted JL to stand in that pocket against that after failing every time before against them?

The farther we get from that day the more I can appreciate just how incredible their defense performed that day. We were no offensive juggernaut, but I'm convinced we could have played for another 60 minutes and failed to score.

The RP issue and...

Zach Lee choosing MLB hurt us (don't blame him).
Going to a pro-style offense and recruiting dual threat QBs like JJ and Harris
Clock management issues
The 2012 Natty rematch

Spot on. 2008 with RP looks totally different and Les might've not become scared of the forward pass. 2009 would've been a good year too (would RP have been on the 2009 team? I think so) although probably not a NC team.
