CWS participants who won regular season:
LSU: (86,90,91,93,96,97,03,09)-8
Bama:(96)-1
Georgia:(87,01,04,08)-4
Vandy:(11)-1
Florida:(88,96,98,05,10,11)-6
USC:(02,11)-2
Tenn:(95)-1
Arkansas:(04)-1
# of times -24
CWS participants who won tourney
LSU:(86,90,93,94,00,08,09,13)-8
Bama:(96,97,99)-3
Florida:(88,91,11)-3
USC:(04)-1
Tenn:(95)-1
Miss. St.:(90)-1

Conclusion: just by the numbers it correlates that winning the regular season title seems to hold more weight as I expected. Anything can happen in a few games, but a season usually separates the contenders from the pretenders. It's not as cut and dry, but interesting to me.

maybe some spacing and bolded titles of sections would help

that is really hard to read

that is pretty obvious

winning the most games out of 30 compared to 12/14 other teams, is much better and more telling than winning 4 or 5 games in a week.

That data is actually pretty inconclusive. Definitely not worth starting a thread over

interesting...thanks for putting this together!

I am analytical and like comparisons of this type...I'll study it more tomorrow when my mind is a little fresher....

It's good to know there are at least a few people on this board who aren't so miserable in their personal lives that they lurk on TD awaiting new threads just so they can bitch about, bemoan and flame the OP regardless of what the thread contains.

If TD didn't exist I can only fathom what the likes of a some (not all) of he first commenters to respond to this thread would devote their lives to bitching about instead...

The info is cool and the stats are interesting, I guess, but I think it is all coincidence. There is no "cause and effect" relationship here between winning the regular season, the tournament, or the CWS.

I wasn't trying to be a dick and criticize him for starting the thread, I just meant that I was expecting something either really surprising or really convincing. The stats he posted show only a slight difference in world series appearances for tourney vs regular season champs. And specifically concerning LSU, there is no difference in the two

I dont really think it gives a nod on way or the other, but it does look like the regular season title could possibly be an indicator of a potentially better post season, which I would have guessed. Thanks for putting the numbers in front of me though, because I was wondering this myself.

The conclusion I get from looking at that is LSU 7 of the last 8 years has won either the regular season or tourney title. Wow impressive as it gets.
