A full-on spread would work at LSU.

Lots of people saying they don't want a "gimmicky" offnse and that it doesn't fit our personality, yada yada yada. A lot of this depends on how you define "spread" and what you do out of it.
Florida won two championships basically running out of a spread. Baylor throws for a gazillion yards a game out of a similar looking formation. Clemson works mostly out of the spread and has great balance. There are a lot of identities to be found on that scale, and we simply need to find one that works.
Les simply has to say goodbye to running the toss dive out of 2-TE sets. It needs to go away. Forever. Smashmouth football in tight quarters will not win you a championship unless your talent level is so much higher than your opponent that you can impose your will on them on ever play. We will never be that. So say goodbye. Spread it out, create some rushing lanes, and throw the ball.

Not with any of the QB's that Les has now.

We don't need to be married to it like we are but our toss dive has dismantled teams this year. I agree it doesn't née to be the staple of our offense but in an obvious run down and distance we should use it

Les Miles would rather punt on first down than run the spread.

And needs to just to give the keys to someone who knows how to run that type of offense. Just sit back and let them run the offense.

Just stop! Nothing is going to change, did you not hear the man after the game... there doesn't need to be an overhaul of the offense.

Not when your job may depend on it?

You revisionist history bitches. He said things needed to change. He also said not a massive overhaul....ie going to a full out spread.
If Brandon hits his throws Saturday, we win that game by 40. The receivers were open. The plays were there. We ran a ton of misdirection and motion. For all intents and purposes, it was a much different looking offense...but what worked? Power I. We had to go back to it, as many on here were saying, because that is what you destroy Chavis coached defenses with.

Why should anyone give two shits what you say? Just yesterday you swore off LSU football and gave up your season tickets.

THIS!! I still don't buy 100% of that shite about LSU not being able to "develop" QB's. QB development is all about understanding the offense, reading the defense, checking out of plays, going through read progression, communication and decision making. Throwing accuracy is something a QB should have a grasp of before he even signs a LOI. Harris's accuracy was abominable on Saturday night.

I'm so tired of this spread talk crap. LSU doesn't need to run the spread....and if you've been paying attention they've been running the spread (or some f'ed up version of it) the last few games. LSU should embrace an offense like Alabama's. A pro style set that runs and passes on first down with less predictability. The toss dive needs to be retired as well as the quick snap toss dive. I think I would shite myself if they ever quick snapped and passed the ball.

How many more years of a lame offense do you need to see to FINALLY buy it?

While I agree with you, if history offers anything, it is that it would take several years to install the system. The truth is, we don't have the o-line to run full spread. Look at Florida, Auburn and Baylor's o-lines- smaller and faster than our hog mollies. We would have to begin by recruiting more mobile tackles and guards.

With the current personnel a spread/gimmicky offense would work better. It allows more space for an in accurate and mobile QB to operate in. It would also help the offensive line when playing the likes of Bama when they simply are not able to dominate like they can against most teams.
The problem is Les's offensive philosophy doesn't match the current personnel at the QB and offensive line. Yes, the current offensive line has done well against most teams but Bama, Ark and Ole Piss have better personnel in the trenches.

Yes a more modern offense would help. But you know how it I'd around here.
LSU fans love to label anything "gimmicky." Someone called Georgia Tech's offense "gimmicky" a couple weeks ago. A fricking triple option offense is gimmicky to LSU folk.

Baylor runs the ball more than they throw it.
Baylor's OL is 6'6" 305, 6'5" 310, 6'5" 310, 6'5" 305, 6'5" 330. They also have a 400lb TE.
Plenty big.

Well, shite man, I don't even know anymore.

I'd like to see the Qb hit throws that are called and open.

Bama has better personnel right now. Ole Miss and Arkansas dont aside from Nkemdiche. Team just didn't play well against those teams.
