With pretty much the whole team thinking this was an easy win, along with semi lazy recruiting is it possible that Kelly is just riding it out and taking the paycheck as he nears retirement? Maybe because he’s older, but BK was definitely one of the most emotional coaches especially when getting onto his own players.

Not saying this is the case, but it’s something that might not be too far fetched.

No. I don’t believe people who have spent their entire life competing at a high level simply turn that off.

I would start getting coach prime on the line now. Kelly is old hat now, he no longer has that fire in him.

He’s 60 and has generational wealth.

He also has zero emotional connection to LSU or the south and probably looks at us all as simpletons.

That’s fair. I feel he does want to prove he can win the natty. However, I do think he has gotten lazy with recruiting. Can’t just live off Louisiana, especially in a down year.

Kelly is going to have to seriously evaluate his coordinators after this season

I think he's capable of running a program but he can't get stubborn like Miles did

Was thinking on this earlier.

I think a part of him really wanted to come here to prove he's one of the best coaches out there and can win championships when given access to the best players.

But another part of him probably knows his performance here isn't going to land him the next job. This is it for him.

So, that, plus being 100MM richer, I'm sure there's some of him that doesn't get too down about anything because regardless of what we do on the field, he's winning off it.

Here came here to win a NC. He's hungry at least until that happens

He’s been wealthy for decades. What does that even mean? Every power 5 coach can retire today and be set.

They’re competitors, they want to win. Sometimes the fire burns out but it’s never a conscious decision to just coast and collect checks. No, I don’t believe that.

There was a stretch of LSU football where they never lost an OOC game. I mean never.

ETA: the QBs could barely throw for 100 yards and they would still run it down people’s throats.

I just miss the days when these openers were a guaranteed W

I don't think so. He pretty much had tenure at ND. I believe him when he said he came here because he wanted to win a natty.

Just don't see 'change of scenery' as sufficient motive at his age.

This is not happening any time soon. If last night and his 2 recruiting classes are taken into consideration, he’s a ways away. 2 to 4 years?

He can win a natty within 5 years if these things go well -

Top 5 recruiting class every year
Nuss becomes the QB he is capable of being
LSU boosters step up with recruiting
Bring in a younger offensive mind
Start stacking DBs and LBs that LSU is used to having

Worried about this from the outset.

He’s clearly a good coach but does he give a shite? If he’s exposed that early I hope he and his family are given a nice big middle fricking finger
