lsu hasn't been the same since bertman hung it up so just look at the stats pm is not the right fit
Well then we should obviously disband the program because we will never be the same as we were under Skip no matter who we bring in.

No. He's actually pretty horrible at this, but it makes up such a small % of what makes for a good college baseball coach that it shouldn't really be a big deal. Mainieri will blow a few games from time to time, but in the end, the teams with the most talent and discipline who are best at focusing on the ultimate prize are the ones who will win that prize more often that not. People are pissed now because we have a subpar team, and Mainieri is getting exposed for some of his weaknesses as a game manager and teacher of individual mechanics. Well, it does suck, but you know, in the big scheme of things, it's really not that big of a deal. Mainieri is a ruthless executive and media personality above all things. Beneath his exterior, I think he's just like Steinbrenner. He will stop at nothing to keep building up the talent on his team until he gets whatever it takes to win. He's not the wisest coach in baseball history, but he is, above all else, a ruthless fricking winner. He's won a NC before and he'll win one again, whether LSU makes it to a Super Regional this year or not.

Peej, calm down before you bust a stitch.

Doc hit the nail right on the fricking head with that assessment. Spot on.

Record is pretty brutal. I would have lost that trivia question.

I don't think they'd be pleased with that many ties.

U gotta love this site.I post the guys record, without comment and the flamimg begins. For the record I don't want the guy fired. The record is what it is.
Bingo. His teams either play like crap or they are on fire. It just seems like he has trouble finding the right mix of players, pitchers to put out there. Ultimately, here you are judged by national championships and he's got one. Hopefully, he can find the missing piece of the puzzle and they can make a run for it.

It was his team. He turned a terrible program around and got us to omaha in his second season. Won the nc in his third, and have won three straight sec tournaments.
He also brought notre dame to omaha.

Some of you guys are unbelievable. If we didn't have Pawloski I'd take Mainieri every single day of the week.

Ray Tanner 59.7% SEC WP
13 seasons 4 CWS trips 1 NC
Van Horn 53.78% 8 seasons 2 CWS trips
Perno 46.9% 9 seasons 3 CWS trips
Mainieri 51.14% 4 seasons 2 CWS trips 1 NC
If LSU has a losing season in the SEC this year that would be 3 out of five years with a losing conference record.
But you can't argue with 2 CWS trips in 4 years and a NC.
One thing it does point out I think is the parity in the conference now.
Oh and Skip 67% SEC WP( never had a losing season) and you know the rest.
The point is not to flame PM. Baseball is very much a stat driven sport. These are just the facts.
My take so far... The pitching we knew was going to be a question mark But Mccune has been great and aside from 1 road start gausman has given us a chance to win. Alsup 1 bad start aside has also. Ott I just don't know what his deal is. We need him or somebody as a closer.
i think the real problem offensively has been replacing Gibbs(.388)Dean(.341) and Landry(.338).Gibbs was a great clutch hitter and Dean was an RBI machine. Hanover's ba is down 30 points from last year and while Rhymes and Jones are hitting for average they have stuggled at times with men on base and against good pitching.
We have a good nucleus of young players and if these guys develop the future looks god. Maybe everyone expected too much after the start of the season.
