I am enjoying the people that think this will suddenly turn around as if LSU is playing possum or something.

This is a down year, let’s just be glad if they make the post season at all at this point

I don’t think Kling has a batting average in SEC play. Leads the team in K’s. He hadn’t earned the right to be in the lineup. This is two years now that he has to be benched for poor performance

I like the positivity but LSU’s bench should be able to beat Southern with 8 guys in the field and only getting 2 outs per inning instead of 3 - From a talent perspective.

I’m still just happy about the championship last year and understand that you can’t cover the gap in talent and experience that left after last season in one off season.

We lost several solid veteran upperclassmen, two of the greatest college baseball players ever and a MLB level assistant coach. What did we expect to happen?

All these same posters, including you, were bitching about the pitching behind Skenes into June last season. Saying they didn't have enough depth to make it out of a regional, or enough talent to win a Super, then not enough depth to make it through Omaha again.

It's almost like sticking with guys throughout their early struggles can pay dividends when you lean on them in the back end of the season.

You can't start Kling.
Sending the message that you can play based on potential is bad.
He should have been sat down earlier. Dude is an absolute no-show this year.
Either put up or sit down at this point.

And there are also people that believe we are going to magically turn it around because Tennessee did it last year. There are people that think Hurd is a great starting pitcher because of one game in Omaha. Point is, there are also people that will pump sunshine no matter what. It's ok to be realistic about what this team actually is.

I think it was reasonable to expect a step back, but also to expect some guys to make strides and take another step. Think about Hurd, Pearson, Kling, Neal - guys that were important contributors in Omaha, or were highly touted and showed promise before injury. Hurd was awful last night against Southern, Pearson is batting ~ .240, Kling is hitless in the SEC and < .200, Neal has one hit in SEC play.

Dropping the first two SEC series - when they were very winnable - was tough. Getting swept by Arkansas in a series where every game was in reach was a kick in the teeth. Now that we’ve been flat outplayed by Southern, including ~4 hits and half of our pitchers getting shelled, I think we’re at a real tipping point. With the next two SEC series against premier teams, I can see them turn the momentum quickly with a series win or two, or I could also see them collapse.
