To the victor goes the spoils, and that's certainly true here.

I suppose we can discount the SEC's "best outfielders" graphic from earlier now. LSU has 2 of 3 on the all-defensive team.

I'm a little surprised Chinea isn't first team but he didn't start blasting homers until halfway through the year. Still a very impressive showing by LSU.

Kyle Martin was a beast at USCe, we couldn't get him out this last weekend

2009 had:

SEC Pitcher of the Year: Louis Coleman, LSU
SEC Freshman of the Year: Matty Ott, LSU
SEC Coach of the Year: Paul Mainieri, LSU
1st Team All-SEC: DH - Blake Dean, LSU
2nd Team All-SEC: OF – Ryan Schimpf, LSU
SEC All Freshman Team: OF – Mikie Mahtook, LSU
SEC All Defensive Team: C – Micah Gibbs, LSU

Not knowing what the end result of the '09 team was, I'd take this team right now.

i would take 2009 mostly bc we had a legit closer, when ott came in you knew we were going to win the game. we are def spoiled to be able to even have a discussion about picking from two teams with so much talent.

If this team goes on to win it all, then I think the discussion between the two teams becomes better. Right now one has a ring and one doesn't.

I haven't watched USCe other than this weekend but from what I saw Kyle Martin seems to be better than Chinea defensively so not much of a surprise there.

2009 had more 'pop', 2 dominant starters and a dominant closer.

2015 has a more consistent lineup, better defensively, a tad more speed, and deeper pen.

Honestly if I had to take a team in a weekend series it would be '09 purely the way Coleman and Ranaudo could dominant ball games but that takes nothing away how deep and impressive this '15 squad is put together.

i was just going to ask if there is some rule that the freshman of the year can't be on the "all" team.

Mike Rivera C from Florida made 2nd team and Freshman team

There has to be some restriction though, or Lange would definitely be on the all-freshman team. Could be that first team all-SEC makes him ineligible, but I don't know for sure.

Yeah, probably since he is THE freshman of the year, he doesn't get to make the Freshman team. Would be unfair to put him in the same league as all those other freshman.

Ell, who outside of Ott, Bradshaw, Cain, and Bertuccini did Mainieri rely upon in late game situations?

(Jones pitched a whole 6 innings...I'm not counting that)

I'd only add Matulis to that list because he got relief innings later in the year. But this year's bullpen leaves something to be desired.

ETA: You could throw in Byrd, but he wasn't really relied on late. Who do we rely on now? Bugg, Newman, and Person? Godfrey and Norman are on the bubble of being "relied on". AC isn't. Stallings isn't anymore. Strall isn't.

Congrats to the Players and CPM; (AD should win best asst Coach for the reg. season);

Bregs was always much better with the bat than Big Nola, but I never thought he'd catch up to him defensively ( and I'm a huge Bregman fan), but he did. If Bregs had DJ at second base like Nola had in 2009, the mind boggles.

Fraley going to be on that list next year.

I think this group is much deeper (my opinion) in terms of talent as well as what they've shown they can do.

I looked at '09 as a veteran group who could piece together innings...which on most nights was 1-2 innings before Ott (Byrd, Bradshaw, Bertuccini, Cain) but none of them had electric stuff.

In '15 LSU has to rely on the pen more so than that season and besides a few blown saves by Stallings and times where Godfrey lets his head get to him the pitching as a whole has been much more consistent.

That's the amazing thing about him.

I never dreamed I would not miss Nola's glove at SS.
