Does anyone know why we are playing Towson next year?

At first, I thought that it was completely ridiculous that we would play a team that bad, and not keep the "cupcake money" in state. But then I heard that Oil Money bought the game because some president at Towson has connections?

Anyone have any info on the situation?

Just read this tweet from @MatthewMonte, on August 3rd, after the game was announced,

I see now. A Towson Dean is the Chair of the Marcellus Advisory Commission. Oil money bought that game.

this seem true?

Yeah there's gotta be something else at play here. I go to LSU but I'm from Maryland less than an hour from Towson a lot of my friends from hs go there. Everyone I've told about this game has responded with a big WTF? Why?

It's a mediocre commuter school filled with kids who couldn't get into UMD with an awful team and I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure they're not in the FBS.

What I'm saying is there has to be something behind the scenes going on for them to book this game. There's really no reason to help pay for this school to come all the way from the east coast for a tune up game. There's plenty of schools in this area that would gladly get towson for a tune up game and plenty of schools much closer to LSU that would be easier to get to come play a game.

I gurantee you besides some people who have Louisina connections there will be virtually NO turnout from any Towson fans, take whatever the lowest visitng turnout you've seen in tiger stadium and cut if in half

My only wish is that I wasn't graduating this may and I could be in town to see Towson get a major arse whippin. Epic Tiger Victory

Didn't Jermon Bushrod (Saints) play for Towson? I think that was the first time I heard of them. Is this the 2012 homecoming special?

I thought that LSU had a verbal agreement with the state to play an in-state team each year. THe purpose of course, was to keep the monies in-state. I would guess the agreement has been completed.

I would much rather see them play in state teams than play Towson.

I've never understood that argument.

If we pay a lower tier school from Louisiana or we pay a rent a win from pout of state we pay the same money. If the state school plays LSU or some other BCS school they get paid.

Unless LSU pays too much for cupcakes it doesn't matter as we play and they play the same number of games.

NSU playing Bama or LSU should be the same for NSU, Troy playing LSU or Bama should be the same for Troy.

If this OOC comes back to bite us in the arse (and the notion that there's no way it will, is shortsighted), somebody's head needs to roll.

It's pathetic.

The schedulers thought it was pronounce "Too-sahn" and thought they were scheduling the University of Arizona from Tucson.

Simple mistake

Bama has proved this year that an SEC team need not play a killer schedule to win it all.

I hate the mentality behind this line that seems to get spouted in every one of these threads.

Also, in fairness to Bama, they did have a road OOC game scheduled against a preseason top 10 team.

We won't be able to say that next year. Not even close.

SEC should make every school play one road OOC every year.

I'm not excited about Towson, but I'm not going to bitch about it either. Playing Washington plus the SEC slate is good enough for a BCS, and that's what the goal is.

I know it isnt Bama's fault that PSU wasnt that good, but that's still how it turned out and it did not hurt Bama in any way.

Their schedule was part of the discussion.

I like the fact that that's never been a knock on LSU in these scenarios (and in 2007 especially, was actually seen as a plus), and hate the fact that we're putting ourselves in a position where it could be.

They used to be Towson St. back when Dave Meggette (NY Giants return man in the 80s/90s), but I have no freakin clue why we would schedule such a ridiculous game. If you want to play a small school, play Southern or Grambling, but personally I think we North Texas and Idaho on the schedule there is no need for another cupcake. We usually sleepwalk through games against light competition anyways!

I've said it many times, and I'll say it again. The fact that anyone can look at this year's LSU team and still want to advocate an all garbage OOC scheduling philosophy is mind-boggling.

But, hey, we get extra tailgate parties. I know we're planning an epic one for Towson and North Texas. Woooooeeeee!!!!

Date came open, when this particular SAT., which would have been Miss State, I believe, had to be moved (SEC /New Teams/ Hence, /New Schedule). Miss State got moved until late in the year, and there was a hole. HARD to find a team, any team, in the spring prior to the football season!! Not lots of choices, Towson State was the one.
That's why we are playing them. Period.
8th home game. Lots of $$.
Maybe us rabid out-of-towners will be able to come to BR LA, and Tiger Stadium, in 2012. = )

I don't see why the consternation here. We hardly got any play for the ridiculous schedule we played this year. I've completely changed how I feel about playing a very difficult OOC schedule. I used to be all for it. Now, I don't see any reason for it. Does anyone remember people discussing prior to both the Arky and Georgia games how we would be left out of everything if we lost either one of those games when we had accomplished BY FAR more than any other one loss team? Actually, the best thing to do would be to schedule four cupcakes in November so you can assure that any loss you might have will have occurred early in the season because of how moronic the media is. But, then, all they do is bitch about how no one plays good OOC games any more. They are hypocritical, shallow, no-thought idiots.
