Dude, Adams is legit. He has the speed to play deep coverage, the quickness to cover the slot and the size/aggressiveness to help in run support. He's the one guy that I'm confident will continue to live up to the hype.

Jamal's first two years' numbers are better than Eric's. And Jamal at 20 years old is the same size as Eric, an NFL veteran---and Jamal is faster. Jamal's football instincts are where he separates. But then again, his dad played in the NFL. Both are great college players. Jamal projects to be a great pro player.

I hear you. And I know he's really good and is a sure thing as far as doing his thing consistently. Just thought he was a bit overrated is all. That word gets a bad rep. Doesn't always mean someone isn't still awesome.

A + favors 2016. A -2011

quote:

DLs- NT- Brockers / Valentine -1
DE- Benie Logan/ Davon Godcheaux Even
DE- Montgomery/ Lewis Neal +1
First DL after- Anthony Johnson/ Greg Gilmore Even but Herron is first, so +1
2nd.. - Ego/ R. Lawerence Gilmore Even
LBs- Buck- Mingo / Key +1
Mike- Minter/ Beckwith -1
Rover- Hatcher/ Duke Riley Even
F - Barrow/ Thompson-or-Divinity -2
DBs- CB1 - Tyrann / Tre White -1
CB2 - Mo Clai / Kevin Toliver Even
SS - Reid / Adams Even
FS -Taylor / Jefferson -1
Nickel- Brooks / Donte +1
Dime - Simon / Dwayne Thomas
Even

Slight edge to 2011, but Valentine is the wildcard. I gave Brockers -1, but that was being generous to TV. Brockers wasn't just good; he was a warrior. That could be -2.

Also, you didn't mention the backup DEs on 2011. They were very good.

I anticipate some Montgomery over Neal criticism, but it isn't so. Sam owed his LSU fan reputation to the fact that he showed enthusiasm. He was overrated; Neal is underrated.

I could see KT being a Claiborne type player and Donte could easily be as good as Brooks.

KT and Mo are comparable. Mo is faster, but KT is tougher. Donte is way, waay, waaaay better than Brooks. Brooks was a late round draft choice. Donte will go in round one. You can bookmark that.

Brooks was 3rd round with limited playing time in college and is still in the league. I think it remains to be seen about Jackson, and I love the guy.

I don't know what the 2016 defense is going to be. I love this secondary, super deep. Beckwith is great but other linebackers are going to have to step up. The d-line is still a question. I think the defense will be fine but lets hold off on comparing it to the GOAT.

Going into 2011 we knew that the defense was going to be insane.

I know we are full preseason hype right now but if this defense is anywhere near 2011, we will win the national title.

The 2011 was just so nasty at forcing turnovers. I want to say there was a +20 turnover margin

Minter was good but give me Beckwith.

Minter was playing with a much better D-line than anything Beckwith has had and still think Beckwith is better.

Didn't realize he was picked so high.

Not sure where you get that.

Reid 2011: 76 tackles 2 INTs 2 forced fumbles; 1 return

Adams 2015: 63 tackles 4 INTs, 1 fumble.

Both are really good. I overrated Eric Reid because he filled a hole in our defense since hatcher was trash in 2010.

Agreed. Beckwith is a stud.

With all due respect to Glen Dorsey (and several others), Brockers is the best DT to come out of LSU since Leonard Marshall. Guy had some speed for someone his size.

I agree. Brokers was the shits. He was a dominant lineman who was unmoveable. Not only that, he did for eight quarters and an overtime against Bama.

honestly, i think the 2011 defense was better on all three units.

Until proven otherwise, this is the only answer. The real question is 2003 v. 2011.
