As far as "good guy" goes, we hired the right coach (good guys don't always go far)... But what happens if we get Petrino in 2005. Love him or HATE him (I do hate the man but not the coach) he'd of been interesting with Jamarcus and Perriloux. I'll start the down vote since you guys hate what ifs and you hate Petrino even more!

petrino would have bailed on us in 07 to go to the falcons. we would've been looking for another new coach 2 years in and left holding the bag.

Petrino wins NC in 06 and maybe 05 also.

Which would've left LSU with a coaching vacancy at the same time Nick Saban decided the NFL wasn't for him. Saban comes back to LSU and we win 5 national titles and Bama never gets their dynasty.

We proabably would have ended up like Tennessee after he left for the NFL

He would have screwed us for the NFL or for some bimbo in his office. LSU would be watching Fournette play for Alabama the last 3 years and winning Heisman's.

It didn't work out that bad for us with the Miles vs Petrino decision.

Is this speculation based on all of the other championships the guy has won?

He was a coach in the SEC and didn't win anything. Absolutely nothing. Why would that have changed at LSU 12 years ago?

Maybe 2006. That was a loaded team that should've contended for the NC.

But people need to forget about 2005. Miles did a masterful job coming in and winning the west, in a season with no bye week and a new staff. Besides, it was always going to be USC-Texas in the end.
