Thinking about it again id actually take 2011 by a lot. The 2003 team dominated 1 good team (Georgia) all of the other teams they dominated either sucked or were 7-5 teams. 2011 dominated rose bowl champion Oregon, orange bowl champion West Virginia (on the road), sec east champ Georgia, and top 10 Arkansas. Not to mention all of the other blowouts in a much
tougher sec than the sec in 2003.

And went 1-1 against probably the best defensive team in CFB history

The SEC in 2011 blowed compared to the 2003 SEC. Hell the SEC in 2011 was probably the worst SEC in 10 years.

Bama and LSU were the two best college football teams of the decade and Arkansas was right behind them most of the year in the rankings not to mention Georgia and South Carolina both had solid teams.
The other sec teams just didnt seem good because of how much better the top two were.

7 sec teams made a bowl in 03 compared to 9 in 2011

I like a team that finishes, so give me 2003. As for regular season, I'll take 2011.

which qb from the 2011 team is playing these 10 games? that could be the difference in the 2011 team going 6-4 or 0-10.

Nah. JJ would just be confused and the '03 D brought tons of pressure so Lee would just shite himself.

Seriously. It's sad people can't remember that team for what it was and only the last game. This 10-0, 8-2 stuff in favor of the 2003 team is laughable.

Amazing how people forget that the ,11 team was being called one of the all time best college football teams in history before their final game collapse. They beat more top ten teams in one season than any team in history. Also they beat every team they played including Saban. The 2011 team would have about 7 or 8 wins against 03. Also the 03 team lost to a bad Florida team that year because of saban and his constant blitzing.

No, it's just that most of us don't think 2011 offense would get a first down against 2003 defense.

2011 Bama D is no different or better than than 2003 LSU D.

2011 wins 6 or 7.

2011 beats every bcs champion of the last ten years except 2011 bama. That team was just sick and I don't think we'll see another like it. Just look at their resume' they blew every Ranked team they played off the map except bama. I'd say 6-4 or 7-3 2011

I am surprised it took 3 pages for this question to get asked. The Rant is going soft.

No way. 2011 would've been the most accomplished team due to that crazy schedule, but not the best. The offense was too limited. 2001 Miami, 2004 USC, 2008 Florida would've all been tough. And I still can't see 2011 offense gaining a single first down against 2003 LSU.

I agree the two defenses were comparable...which means 2011 LSU would struggle mightily to score points against 2003. Better hope special teams does something.

Good thread idea and one I have not seen before.

Both defenses were superb, but 2003 moved the ball more consistently and was A LOT better throwing the ball. 2011 had the Mathieu factor and outrageously good special teams.

In general, I think you're looking at lower scoring games as the 2003 O was not all that potent against the really good teams (well, except for Ga teh second time!), with 2003 faring a little better due to a better passing game but then dropping a few, as well, due to turnovers. Mauck was a heck of a good player, but he did have a tendency to turn the ball over. I will say 6-4, 2003. Very strange teams to compare.

by the way, the 2003 and 2011 teams have something in common in that they both played as poor a game as you will ever see really good teams play. The team that got "Zooked" was just dreadful that day and was all but shut with the only points coming on a Skylar Green punt return. We all remember too well what happened in the Bama, part II game.

JJ & JL would struggle mightily against that 2003 defense, which was also nearly impossible to run on. 2003 LSU is similar in many ways to 2011 Bama. 2011 would definitely win a few though. I'll say 6-4 in favor of 2003.

This seems like the best analysis in this thread so far, although 2011 Bama was a much better running team than 03 LSU. But the D and passing game, at least Bama's passing on 1/9, was very similar

Very true. The rematch was virtually impossible for LSU to win. LSU was in the odd position of feeling like they needed to stick with what worked the first game, while Saban had nothing to lose so he was able to pull an O out of his hat that they hadn't run all year, letting AJ throw to the sidelines, and I'll be damned if AJ didn't play the game of his life.

LSU was trying to win another war of attrition waiting for D and ST to win the game like it did on 11/5, but Saban was playing a different game.

Even then, the game was 12-0 after 3 quarters. A single turnover or big ST play, like we had gotten all year that made us so dominant, would have made it a game, but it never came. Maze got the ST play of the game with his early return, and LSU never got theirs.

If LSU got a chance to break the 1-1 tie, Chavis would have been able to study and stop that O, similar to the way he did in 2012, and LSU would have changed their attack on O the way they did in 2009, 2010 and 2012 to much success.

But 1/9 we felt like it was going to be another 11/5 slugfest, and prepared as such. Huge miscalculation by Miles, but if he had come out slinging it around and lost, people would have said he was an idiot for changing what worked the first time. It really was a terrible position to be in.

Yep. Zero chance Lee would have ever gotten a W against that 03 D (I realize this is probably the exact opposite of what the OP meant, but it is the fact of the matter. Lee 1 TD 7 INTs all time against Saban. Lee's shorts would have needed changing facing Lavalais, Spears, Hill, Williams, Webster, Daniels, Hunt, Landry, and Alexander. Seriously, would have been UGLY.)

Nah. JJ would just be confused and the '03 D brought tons of pressure so Lee would just shite himself.

Agreed. 2011 D could force Mauck into some turnovers though too, see FL, OM, and OU 2003.

As long as 11 didn't turn the ball over, big plays on ST and D could have gotten wins against 03 the way the got the W over Bama on 11/5.
