2 baseball signees sign MLB contracts

Dawson is competing with Byrd for the SS position. He turned down 650k, third round pick.

Both were JUCO and both were not "expected" to honor their commit to LSU.
Dawson and Lochridge provide much more upside although younger and not as polished to date.

Watched piatnik play today for the Billings mustangs (red's rookie league). He looked good--ffaaassttt! I thought that name sounded familiar--thought he might have been from a team we faced in the post-season. Now I remember...

I think it's a good deal for both of them. Piatnik can't hit for shite, and is really a defensive replacement. Taylor won't get much higher. No way.

Same reason you recruit Alex Bregman. Anything can happen, sometimes kids slide in the draft and decide to come to school.

Trahan from ULL and a pitcher from Southerneastern (Johnson) played today front the Mustangs. Pretty cool seeing these LA kids up here. My pops & I invited them all over for gumbo.

I want to know if they've heard anything about Ryan January. He wasn't drafted but still wasn't expected to attend LSU. Did he sign to a JUCO now?

The same reason you recruit Cole McKay, Alex Bregman, take a pick of the freshmen pitchers we brought in for this last season...
Because they can and do sometimes make it in.

Another thing to note is while Piatnik provided slick fielding and is a switch hitter was pretty bad at the plate. Imagine Nola as a freshman basically. Think he hit about .290 this year in JUCO with like 3 doubles no triples or HR.

I think he is still playing in a summer league. I don't think he came out with anything official outside his circle and coaches. He has a crazy high ceiling so for him not to get drafted I would think there is something scaring scouts. Maybe he's a dead pull hitter or K's too much.

Pretty sure this was it, and go ahead and include January in those not making it to campus. Should be it, but who knows what will happen.
