I remember listening to the game on the radio while selling watermelons on the side of the road earning money to go to Stanford forensics camp in high school...I can't remember more of a roller coaster ride of emotion in such a short period of time...still one of the greatest LSU sports memories I have and I wasn't even there or able to watch it on television...proudly voted for Warren Morris in student government when I was a freshman at LSU...GEAUX TIGERS!

I remember that night after the game a bunch of us were in a local bar having a bachelor party for a friend. Some guy walked in the bar wearing a Miami baseball jersey. ( remember this was when baseball jerseys were a big fad ) Its doubtful this guy even knew anything about the game. Needless to say the entire bar starting pointing at him yelling Tigerbait, to the point that he actually turned around and walked out

At least they could get the facts straight, "...with Miami third baseman Pat Burrell in the background lying face down in the grass, ran nationwide." It was Cora on the grass, not Burrell.

Solid fail brah.

Both Burrell and Cora were on the grass, but Burrell is in the famous picture.

Right, and Cora is in the CBS footage. I think that's why everyone gets confused because they show Morris between 2nd and 3rd and Cora in the grass and the live footage is what most remember

I think the best part about the play is it was a first pitch homer.

Miami goes from being one out away of winning to losing the game in a split second.

I was actually in Omaha that year, first trip. And had been deathly sick from bronchitis. got there and had a bad reaction from the latest meds. Still stayed long enough to see us whup Wichita State (worst baseball fans by a mile) and Florida. I was so sick at that point I flew home and watched it from my bed. Wish I coulda been there.

:not so cool story bro:

Here's a video I compiled years ago with their CWS games that year:

CWS 1996

I actually bought some slides and the copyrights from the Miami team photographer years back. Lots of game pics and celebration shots.

I was sitting behind the LSU dugout on the 3rd base side. There was a guy behind me wearing a Rosenblatt Stadium Staff t-shirt already celebrating Miami's victory as Warren Morris stepped in the batters box. When he made contact with the ball, for a split-second the stadium went completely quiet and then erupted. I turned around and the guy in the Rosenblatt shirt had his hands over his face cursing gd f'ing LSU. I said "hey, give me your shirt." He pulled it up over his head inside out and threw it at me and said "you can have the f'ing shirt." I still have it. The Miami dugout looked like a bomb went off inside it with players crumpled on the steps and strewn out in front on the grass.

since people are posting different youtube videos of the Morris homer... figure I'll drop this 1 in here

LINK

the whole bottom of the 9th inning... starting off w/ Brad Wilson who was 0/4 w/ 3 Ks leading off and smacking a double down the LF line

oh... and i was 11 at the time... was at my sis's dance recital (hadn't started yet) when someone ran into the Lakefront Arena auditorium and screamed "LSU won"... didn't mention that it was a walk off homer by a guy that hadn't hit 1 all season

I saw the game in a condo at Destin on the 15th floor. Wife and small kids were down on the beach. When he hit the homerun I went out on the balcony and yelled TIGERS WON so loud my family heard me. Two levels below me another guy game out and starting yelling LSU LSU LSU. We got together and celebrated down on the beach. What a day.

I guess the article and I were both right. Burrell is in the photo, Cora the video.
