It doesn't always work that way guy. Defenses play tougher in the redzone. That is a fact. South Carolina has one of the top overall defenses in the country and they buckled down when it came to red zone defense last night.

Again, back to the original point of the OP. He posted the percentages of the leading teams in the county that score TDs 80% of the time in the redzone. It CAN work that way..... I will agree, defenses buckle down, and SC has a great defense. But that percentage was still bad.

And like someone else already posted. How is that working out for them. UGA got embarrassed by USC with those awesome red zone TD percentages. UT got embarrassed by OU yesterday. And Tech lost a shootout to A&M last night with really stout defense.

You can't just "punch it in" everytime you get in the red zone against a defense like that. You seriously know nothing about football if you think its that easy.

SC's D is great, I get that. But the play selection is questionable in the red zone. Agree?

Try something new?

We had over 400 yards off offense in this game with 258 coming on the ground against one of the best 5 defensive lines in the entire country. Yardage wise, these guys were only about 12 yards off of Bama's run defense beforet this game. We MANHANDLED them. Our rookie offensive line absolutely blew these guys up all night long.

Yet you guys are still bitching about the offense. How stupid.

I think you just underscored his point (pun intended).

Use your brain, buddy. You have to get into the red zone first.

Look I know everyone is tired of seeing us run the ball. It is boring. I get that. But we averaged 5 yards a carry last night and were fricking mauling their defensive line last night.

With that said.

In the redzone last night we did pull out a double move and Jarvis Landry was wide open for days. Mett over threw him. Should have been an easy touchdown. If we score that TD, I don't think there are quite as many complaints today. That was a PERFECT play call.

I will say that the fade to Nic Jacobs in the corner was a little strange. But again, it was a pretty lousy throw from Mett.

Scoring touchdowns in the red zone against a terrific D like USC is no easy task. That is my only point.

I dont know what play call I would rather see. Mett has thrown a couple red zone picks on balls over the middle this year and threw one last night (not in the red zone. And we were mauling their defensive line last night, so I don't know what I would have rather seen last night than what we did. I wish we would have not had the false start on the fourth down from the one because that forced our hand in kicking a field goal.

What would you have wanted to see us run down there last night?

No shite. I guess the percentages don't help you if you aren't in the fricking red zone now do they?

play action out of bunch formation to the tight end
counter pitch to Ford

also think they need to work on a couple of spread plays to be ran from the 15-20 that go into the end zone.

He's making the statement that if we score those TDs instead of kicking field goals inside the 10, it would have been a blowout.

Red zone offense sucks right now. If it improves we are very dangerous. Enough said.

Instead every asshat on the board will start this same topic 100 times over the next week.

People bitching at the OP for the red zone criticism are just stupid.

We need TDs, not field goals if we want to beat you know who.

Can someone list the pass attempts in the red zone? One fade to Jacobs, one sluggo to Landry. Another pass was a wide receiver screen that was thrown behind the line of scrimmage but batted down by Clowney.

Seems like the coaches are scared of throwing a pick in the red zone.

Who's making that argument?

Florida State, Arizona, and Ball State have the most trips in the red zone. None are undefeated. Arizona has scored a TD in the red zone 52.5% of the time. Ball State has scored a TD 53.8% of the time. Perhaps if they scored at rates more like UT, UGA, and LT they wouldn't have lost a game they did.

LSU maybe beats Florida if they score a TD after the fumble recovery. South Carolina had an opportunity to win with a game-winning FG if their last possession went differently in a game in which they got completely dominated.

No statistic matters more than the score. Often times the difference in a game is who does better in the red zone. Ask Stanford.

I wasn't making any suggestions about what should be done. Just pointing out that the results haven't been very good and that something different needs to be done.

I'm confident the coaches will address the red zone issues because I doubt they are happy with the results unlike you seem to be.

Our red zone offense is a concern. It is the only thing that kept last night from being a blowout. 3 FGs when we are inside the 7 is not good. That said, Alabama had the same issues last year in the red zone and overcame it. Here is to us doing the same thing.

Look I am not trying to deny that we aren't scoring touchdowns with as much frequency as we did a year ago inside the red zone.

But plain and simple you don't score TDs just because you get to the red zone against a defense if that caliber.

What kept this game close were the punt return and the pick. And how about the missed FG from point blank range? Without those 3 crappy plays we win this game 26-7 with ease.

That was a great play call but an even greater play by Clowney. If he doesn't bat that down it's probably 6.

I guess we are the stupid ones. FGs sure looked good and seemed to work on 11/5 didn't they? How about against Moo State last year? Remind me of the score if that game again?
