Still can't see how the #1 need isn't SP.

The bullpen has been impressive. We are talking next season though. A legit #1 Friday night guy would be ideal, IMO.

Paul Manieri - was a great coach and I knew it all along. This coach will be better this isn’t his recruited players. And, 1st year

This is completely on Paul Manieri’s mismanagement of the program since the start of the 2018 season.

Is it though? Does JJ have some responsibility here as well. I’m not on the dump Johnson wagon and think he needs time to build his squad. He brought in a couple of good pitchers in Cooper and Reyzelman but I guess he thought Money would be a Friday ace.

We had no defined starting pitcher in 2021 after Marceaux pitched Friday nights. The constant injuries to the pitching staff the last 5-6 seasons along with the early round draft picks never making it to campus left the staff in sharp decline.

CJJ had a mere couple of months at best to get the roster in shape. No one expected Coleman to go down the way he did. Coleman being the only current blow to the staff is amazing considering what we have witnessed year in, year out with Manieri at the helm.

Find a new coach. This whole CJJ experiment has fallen flat.

No it’s not and don’t get me wrong CPM was way past it but this team is loaded to the gills. People blaming talent or the players are doing it to take heat off of JJ. Now that’s not saying he stinks, maybe it’s just not the perfect fit with these guys which is a coaching weakness that’s been conveniently ignored. But since they’re playing the blame game let’s keep it honest, it falls at JJs feet.

AJ was #2 after Jaden went down. And probably should have come back for this season.

Good post.

JJ didn't inherit a filled roster but he did inherit more talent than most do. Schlossnagle got a much worse deal but is doing better than JJ now.

Starting pitching for sure. Actually kind of amazing LSU is in the position they are with no starting pitching, no SS(yes it's void here), and no C.

Pitching, SS, C in that order. Need more than 1 starter too unless someone develops. A legit ace at minimum.

That can be said for every infield position, except for Berry's bat. Worst infield I've seen at LSU in 50 years.

Thank you for saying it.

Defensive only reflection:

Whoever we have started at 3B this year has been just as bad as SS defensively. The left side has zero consistency.

Morgan is great, but he’s not next level great. Morgan has had his share of screwups this year.

Second has been our “best” position all year.

The need is the same as last year…a weekend pitching rotation that can compete in the SEC. Poor starting pitching puts more pressure on the defensive players. I’m not sure there’s a statistic that exhibits that but lots of contact creates more “opportunities” for errors. Doughty and Thompson should be fielding better but these games get intense and this year, so far, they have been buckling. I say it the same as last year at this time, it’s more about pitching than anything else.

1-Several Pitchers
2-An SEC caliber SS
3-A consistent Catcher
