okay... because the wife asks every game....

what's the deal with the members of the band that do not participate in Pre-game? Do y'all have to "qualify" to participate every week?

I'll hang up and listen... thanks

Pretty sure that the pregame routine is choreographed for a specific number of marchers.

Basically. The one's who do not participate are alternates. We have tryouts during our preseason week but if you are not pulling your weight, they will take you out during the season. The fact that you earned your spot doesn't mean you get to keep it.

The drill is for something like 275 marchers and we have 325 total.

Those are the "walk-on's." Get to practice with the team but rarely get into a game unless there's an injury. I used to voluntarily sit out some pre-games because I'd been in the band for so long, the "Thrill" was gone. I'd just be nice and let a freshman march my spot. (And I was the Bass Drummer that did "The Beat" during Pre-Game) Believe me, Pre-Game IS NOT THAT EXCITING AFTER YOU DONE IT FOR 8 FREAKING SEASONS. The last few years, I'd always do the first game of the year and all the SEC games, but I'd let the younger guys have a chance for some of the OOC Sisters of the Poor games. We marched 5 Basses for halftime and only 4 for pre-game, so there was always an opportunity for one of them to march a pre-game if I wanted to sit a few out. Pre-Game is fun during an actual game, but not much fun actually marching it at the end of a regular practice........

That goes for me as a fan as well. I've seen it for the past 15 years. Besides the first game of the season and big SEC games, it's not that exciting...

What is TTR? I'm one of those confused, but that normally doesn't take much.

I don't remember what TTR stands for, but that's what they band does when the turn around in one step. They do it in pregame when the big block hits the endzone and turns around before they spell out LSU.

edit: TTR = "to the rear"
