I was at the McNeese game and I noticed on a couple of previous LSU punts how the entire McNeese team would just peel back and start running with their backs to the punter without even looking.

I thought to myself that next time LSU should come out with the punt team, fake the punt, and run for the first down.

Do you think that Les Miles called for the fake punt or that Jasper did it on his own when he realized the entire McNeese team was running away from him?

Les saw it and passed the word to Jasper. He told him that he must have a WANT to run for the first and be sure he made it.

I think Jasper is just a badass short sombitch that can run like hell and noticed that nobody from McNeese was playing the fake.

I'm sure that the coaches gave him a heads-up on that one

Jasper made the call. But the coaches may have noticed it and mentioned it to him prior to that particular play after noticing their style of coverage. But he definitely made the actual call to run.

the coaches noticed it and gave Jasper the green light. it's one of those, if it's there take it, plays.

if someone actually made sure that Jasper was going to punt and watched him, he would have punted it, but as it turned out they all turned and played coverage.

And now for the rest of the story........

Les said "JJ, you have got to get some production running the ball. That's why you are our starting QB!" Jasper stood there with a stunned look on his face, and said OK Coach. Little did Josh realize his one play would generate more offensive production (11 yds) than the 30 plus plays by the "JJ" Les "Thought" he was speaking with (4 yards).

"We told him to look at that," Miles said. "We said, ‘You have a look-see,' because it didn't look like they were pressing the punt. They weren't forcing us to punt the ball, so certainly he pulled that sucker down and got a first down."

I can't remember seeing coverage like what McNeese did before. They didn't send one guy. Just had everybody turn their backs and run with the ball. I noticed it the punt before the fake and was expecting them to fake it if McNeese kept giving Jasper wide open space ahead of him.

There is usually at least one guy assigned to keep the punter honest. I can't believe that the McNeese coaches designed the return the way it happened. Some kid missed his assignment.

It's obvious that he could make it. Jasper prolly just looked up and ran.
