The way I see it is this:

Jefferson, Lee, Lee this year

I highly doubt Jefferson or J Lee go anywhere, and we have this set up next year.

2011

Jefferson, J Lee as SRs, Z Lee as Soph (he plays this year due to an injury), and Rivers as Fresh.

Or is it 2012 we are needing to set up for?

Not sure what 2012 QB's have us on their radar. A lot depends on how well LSU does this year IMO.

Need a pipeline!! After next year, we would only have 2 scholarship Qb's(Lee,Rivers). I'm sure there would be a walk-on guy in the mix, but that would be thin. They also have to develop, which takes time, with the speed of this league. So if we don't take 2 this year, you might see a Juco guy get a scholie to bridge some depth issues. Its the most important spot,PERIOD, and you can almost never oversign here IMO.

The only reason(s) I see to have 2 QBs this year...

1. Z Lee does choose pro baseball
2. Ely or Brisset want to commit

I just don't see Lee or JJ leaving after this year.

It's 2012 that we are preparing for. There will only be two quarterbacks(Lee and Rivers) on campus during Spring of 2012 unless we can get a mid-term graduate in next year'ts class.

Another QB isn't a necessity this ear IF...Lee sticks to his commitment and Rivers follows through with his. Next year there would be a need to sign one though, figuring Lee only has two more years (after this one).

JJ, J.Lee, Z.Lee and Rivers would give you 4 schollie QB's in '11. I would think next year LSU would "need" to sing another one.

I see, you misread the post. I said "after next year", implying that JJ and JLee would be gone, then. They are both Juniors this year, as far as eligibility.

Ok, gotcha. That's what I was hoping you were referring to.

Unless J Lee is starting next year, he will transfer. It'll be his 5th and final year, and it will be in his best interest to transfer either to a FCS school or graduate and pull a Masoli and go to another program without losing a year.

I respect the kid sticking around as he has, but he needs to see the field again. This is just like the Flynn situation if JR came back in 07. Flynn was going to almost certainly transfer.

That means you'll only have 2 scholarship QBs next year, not counting any recruits.

Because we find it so hard to sign one, we take them when we can?

It's almost a given that 3 QBs will see the field in any given year. I can't remember a year where we didn't have at least one QB miss a game due to injury. I prefer to have 4-5 QBs on the roster with 3-4 ready to play.

First off b/c you're not coach.

2nd off all it takes is for 1 QB to go down and then you're shite fricked. Especially if you're LSU.
JJ isn't that great, neither is J. Lee. Who is would LSU start, a true freshman.

LSU needs 2 QB's this year no matter what.

Because you have to develop for 2012...

If we take two guys now and don't feel they're worth it later, they can pack and leave. That simple. Its better to take your odds at two and at least give them a year of development...

Maybe you'll get lucky and one turn into a stud early. Its depth we need now and a immediate need. You have no idea who will be interested in us at QB next year. Need 2 guys behind Lee now.

How about the fact that we've lost 2 of the last 5 QBs that have made it to campus.

Also, you aren't guaranteed the following:

1) That Z Lee comes to campus. He still has over a week to bolt for the $ in the MLB.

If he does, we would have no scholarship QBs in place for 2012. Having just 1 recruited QB means we are back in position of 2008 with on year experience and minimal options.

2) QB is a crapshoot. Hell,we signed FLynn and JR in one season and that worked out.
