Chris Lockett is a freshman basketball player at Newman in NO. Although most major recruiting services havent begun ranking the 2023 class yet, the services I've seen that have ranked the 2023 class all have Lockett in the top 10 nationally.

I see on his Rivals profile that he currently has offers from Baylor, Houston, and Vanderbilt but I see nothing about an LSU offer (or even Tulane).

Randy Livingston is the coach at Newman and Arch Manning is also a freshman on the varsity Bball team so presumably he and Lockett are friends. It could help with recruiting Manning for FBall too if Lockett has an offer. I generally feel like kids like it when schools recruit them early and stay on them so Will Wade would be well served to offer this young talented kid soon.

Also FWIW I think Lockett is in line to be the next three time LA Mr. Basketball/3 time LA Gatorade Bball POY (only other one is JaVonte). With Cook and Beekman both graduating there is kind of a void in LA HS Basketball right now. Emareyon McDonald at Scotlandville is considered the state's top 2021 guy but I think Lockett will gave the stats and team record to win it three times.

I've heard a lot of buzz about this kid. Certainly will be a big time recruit. I fully trust Wade when it comes to recruiting. I hope we bring this kid in when it's time, granted it's 3 more years.

I hope so. I know a lot of people will say "Oh he is just a freshman don't worry about it." But like I said you want to jump on a kid like this early. Baylor is a team that is known to snatch up top Louisiana Bball players (Tweety Carter, LaceDarius Dunn, Rico Gathers, Mark Vital, Jared Butler) so the fact that they have already offered the kid means LSU needs to step it up. Houston is also a team that has had some recent success with the help of some Louisiana guys (Corey Davis and DeJon Jarreau). Cant let a top 10 guy in our own backyard get away.

Very rare that this has an impact . Classsic example Randy Livingston and Peyton Manning were teammates at Newman .

If Lockett is worthy of an offer trust that Will Wad knows all about him. He will ge a strong arse offer in plenty of time.

Obviously wont be a deciding factor but if the two are very close it could help. I dont think JaVonte Smart and Kelvin Joseph both commit to LSU unless the other does. Same for Reece Beekman and Jonathan Horton both going to UVA next season.

It is relevant because it means that Lockett is already getting attention from a top program that has a good rapport with LA kids. Baylor is a team that was #1 for a good part of the season last year and their best player was a kid from NO. You dont think Scott Drew has been using that as a selling point to Lockett? On top of the fact that they offered him as a freshman when no schools in his own state even had yet? My point is this isnt like a freshman getting a Nicholls St offer or South Alabama. There are bonafide powerhouse CBB programs already jumping on the kid and LSU needs to do the same.

Will Wade is one of the best in the business at recruiting. I’m sure he’s got a handle on this. That’s why whatever happened in the past is irrelevant

Reaching way too much

Let Will Wade do his job. If he’s good enough he’ll get a damn strong offer

You're asking why a freshman in high school doesnt have an offer, seriously?

When that freshman is top 10 in the country and already has P5 offers (including an SEC offer) then yes I will ask why he doesnt have an offer.

Yes because clearly it is so difficult to go watch a kid who plays all his school games 50 miles south of Baton Rouge. But magically somehow Scott Drew and Jerry Stackhouse managed to find the time and they liked what they saw enough to give a 14 year old kid an offer.

True, but the concept of going to the same school is highly overrated. look how often we see two players in the same sport in the same class allegedly wan to play together in college. Then compare how often that really happens.

How do you know wade isn’t in on him? Recruiting takes years of relationship forming. With that said many of wade’s contacts come from back east and after the whole smart incident he may only deal with his trusted contacts.

Because hes a freshman, chill out. This kid wont make a decision for 2 more years probably. Are you going to ask why we havent offered the top 8th grader next?

Theres tons and tons of time left in those recruitments.

On the Naismith list, the #14 player is also from Louisiana - Nate Sasser. Anyone have any info on him? What school does he go to?

If the top 8th grader lives in Louisiana and already has other P5 offers then yes I will ask why we haven't offered him.
