Why does there seem to be a struggle to get Defensive commitments?

With the weeks of uncertainty, I would expect to see a small offensive class, but that is not the case. Yet, on defense, we only have 7 commitments.
The average number of defensive commitments for other top 10 teams is 9.4. We are nearly 30% below the average.
We have one of the best defensive coordinators in the country. Why isn't that translating into more top defensive recruits?
Yes, we do have a top 5 class right now and I am damn happy about that! I am not being a troll or negatiger, just looking for a logical reason.

You are not being a troll?? You put statistics out there and research others teams in the top 10, but you are too ignorant to research our own recruits. Try counting again and note that JaCoby Stevens, Patrick Queen, and Kirklin are listed as athletes but are defensive players. Not a troll? Yeah, whatever dude

Yes we are. Based on PennyPecker's answer, we have 10. So, above average and exactly 50% of our class. That is all I wanted to know. Thanks.

All the whining and complaining about lack of D recruits...we may be getting the two top DL in this recruiting class! A good defense starts in the tenches.

The only reason he received a-hole replies is not because he was wrong it's because he didn't educate himself about the recruits. He just looking at stars and numbers not actual players
