Why do we care about recruiting?

So who cares about what an 18 year old decides on where to go to college? It doesn't affect my life one way or the other.

Well...I keep on telling myself that but can't help getting pissed off/happy as hell when an 18 year old kid decides on going to LSU or not. Then soft logic sets in and tells me that a few hotshots will set your program up for some BCS bowls.

Thoughts?

I wish I didn't care as much sometimes but its really so hard when you love LSU as much as everyone on this board does, well mostly everyone.

Why do we care for sports in general? Its entertainment. It feels good to have bragging rights.

Recruiting is the part of the football season that is suppose to be "boring" and not looked at by fans as much. But with all of the recruiting sites, the recruit rankings etc.. Fans have grown to love the recruiting process.

It also shows where your program can be 3 years down the line. So the real question is.. why would u not care about recruiting.

I actually get as excited for the 4* kids as much or more sometimes than the all-galaxy blockbuster Reuben Randle Russell Shepard type guys.

but I admit, Shep being a Tiger does have me pretty damn stoked.

This is why I keep up with it, but only to an extent.

I absolutely hate those retards that get pissy because an 18 year old chose to go to a different school than LSU. It's fricking silly when a 40 year old man on message board says things like "We don't need Randle anyway. frick him." Some people need to get a life.

Not mention that high school football is excruciating to watch.

I find myself doing the same thing. I think we intend to pay more attention when we have great classes coming in like this upcoming class. I have never been more exciting about a class than this years. This class will be one of the best ever for LSU. Good recruits = winning games!

Who cares about... say reality TV shows? There is as much drama in blue chip recruits visiting schools and narrowing their choices as there is in the Bachelor or in American Idol. But in recruiting, fans have a vested interest, as the quality of recruits is a credible indicator of how the team will do in the following years.

Thats how I feel. I come here to relax and have fun. I appreciate the contact with other fans and folks back home. Some posters, however, take LSU football and this board very seriously, living vicariously through the team. To each his own, but a little perspective never hurts.

Recruiting tells you where your program is going and in LSU's case it would be hard not to be pretty excited about the future.

LSU's class could end up being the highest rated ever if you sign all your top targets. As a Bama fan I don't like that much but its hard not to be impressed.

Roll Tide.

Something to talk about after football season is over and before March Madness gets cranked up.
