When was the last time we had this many commits this early?

Just really started following recruiting this past cycle, but I was curious. I think we currently stand at about 13. Is it normal to have so many commits this early?
Was listening to Sports Today yesterday and they had Shea Dixon on. He said it's a change of culture. CEO is not waiting around to offer these kids (after camps, etc.). If I heard correctly, we have twice as many commits currently as any other SEC school.
Do you think we'll be in a bind if we start landing bigger fish closer to signing day? I believe Shea said the number this coming year will be somewhere between 27-30 signees.
Relatively new to TD, so go easy on me.

A lot of these kids will be big time recruits after the evaluation period over the summer camps. It's good that we are making strides to get these kids committed. A lot is CEO doesn't play around and also the staff is doing very well in evaluating before the recruiting sites complete theirs. 27 would be a let down in my eyes. I would think we should take around 29-30 with the amount of talent we lost last year and the youth on the team. Also, you're looking at kids that want to get their recruitment out of the way before summer so they can focus on their team and in school to graduate on time.

Thanks. Yeah it sounded like CEO is trusting the evaluating of his coaches and that many of these kids are likely to get a bump in ratings after they camp. It is refreshing to have kids who know where they want to go (whether it is LSU or not) and don't make a spectacle out of the process. I get pretty irritated with these kids releasing Top 15-20 rankings. But I guess that's the nature of recruiting these days.
Regardless of how people feel about CEO, I think he is killing it in recruiting so far. Was able to salvage last year's class (understatement), and is not playing any games in his first full recruiting cycle. Happy to see us not slow playing kids like we used to. If you want a kid and believe he can play for LSU, offer him.

I don't know how many early enrollees are part of this class but Cherry is elligible. Guys in his position want to commit early so they can focus on their senior season. In most cases they will be on a campus within a month or so of their season ending. This doesn't leave a lot of time to take care of the things required for enrollment (Financial aid, transcript confirmation, moving, etc..). Committing early makes their life a whole lot easier.

I like the approach O is taking and being how we can load up this year it's vital that we take LAs best or who we think is best for LSU ASAP. It gives the program momentum and also turns up the heat on others that might really want to commit but don't have a good reason to do it now. If they see the class is empty and you still have spots then why not wait. If that class is filling fast and you really know that's the place for you then a class filling fast gives you a reason to make that decision early.
Most guys never regret doing it either. Getting half way through your class early with quality recruits builds a foundation which I think O has done with smart, hard nosed, tough football players. Then you can shine that other half up with the bigger names.
I think we have had this same interest in LSU every year it's just that Orgeron is playing into that, offering the kid, calling them, and just keeping the excitement level high at all times so we shouldn't hear, well LSU has cooled on me. With the excitement level high it will never seem cooled.
This is why I think coach O will work out at LSU, he knows how to sell this LSU program. It comes natural to him but then his assistants can really close that with performance on the field which builds more excitement and seems like everything at LSU is coming together, it's fun for these guys. Our coaches are having fun now and that is key IMO to separating your program from the rest. You can have fun and be free spirited while being a champion. I think O learned this at a few places and those places are still talked about as some of the best programs in CFB history!! GT

And the pending NFL Draft will just help fuel the flame!

The 2018 LB board is ridiculous right now. 4 guys commited with at least 4 more guys stating LSU leads(Andrew Chatfield, James Miller, LaDedric Jackson, and Yasir Abdullah). Then you have other guys with LSU in their top group like Teradja Mitchell, Zacoby McClain, and Elijah Winston.

Idk, you tend to get kids that end up decomitting when it's this early, as we already see. We can take a lot more this cycle, but I also don't want the program I root for screwing kids over thinking they've had an offer for months just to have it pulled later on.
And y'all act like we sucked at recruiting before or something. Les just had the best stretch in the HISTORY of the program. This past class was damn near full before he was fired.
