What position do recruit rankings miss the most?

I saw an Andy Staples piece once that said DB is the most successful. He was surprised that it wasn’t linemman, which he said had a high miss rate. I would guess QB is the hardest?

Probably QB
We signed some highly-rated QB recruits during the Les Miles era, but almost all of them ended up being terrible.

OL I would think.
5* OL seem to bust all the time and it seems like most major programs have multiple 3* OL in their rotation.

I would think Lineman as well
I hate being the person with a "source" or whatever, but back in highschool one of my friends went to a camp in Louisiana and was matched up against Chris Davenport a bunch and he said he wasn't that good. My buddy had a full ride to A-state as a tackle so you would think it would have been a mismatch

OL is a good one but I have to do QB. How many QB's have we signed that didn't amount to anything? Our most talented QBs this century are all transfers:
Mettenberger, Burrow, Daniels.

I've read where coaches said that DBs are more predictable and with more early success because its more dependent athleticism. A great athlete can cover with less coaching, but without athleticism they can never cover.

I'm inclined to put a lot of that on LSU's inability to develop the position. Hard to say guys like Brandon Harris or Myles Brennan were misevaluated. Just about all those guys had verifiable, physical talent.
Anthony Jennings was a 100% miss, I will grant you. The guy actually got worse at ULL.

QB and OL.
My guess would be those are the two positions that most rely upon homework (playbook and film study) off the field. You can have all the physical talent in the world but if you don't understand the offense or your assignment then you aren't going to make it. Hard to see which kids will show up to college ready to work and not spend too much time enjoying themselves.

QB, but running a close second is OL.
Watch the nfl. “Steve Jones- montana state. Jayden Williams- northern Iowa. Mike smith- Rutgers.”
And on and on and on

Probably lineman with a lot of em just taking guesses because a kid is a certain size at a certain age mainly going off of potential then it turns out that they just peaked early in high school

OL and QB would be my guess. OL factors physical development but both positions due to not being able to evaluate failure(how they handle it), mental eptitude/fragility(coaching and game awareness and a sixth sense. Those things are trial by fire.

QB and LT. by far the hardest two positions to develop and play so they would naturally be the hardest to project

I wonder: does that say more about the recruit or about the coaching and development by the staff under Les

You may have a point on Harris, but Brennan was built like Olive Oil and put up stats against horrendous competition in high school. He got to LSU and showed very little.

Think that says more about Les than it does about QB recruiting as a whole

They usually miss on offense and defense.....

I actually think it's the reverse. Harris transferred and still looked like garbage at UNC. Clearly wasn't just our coaching. However, Brennan in his only 4 starts looked better than Harris ever did. Would've only continued to develop if not injury

I read the same, or a similar, article. If memory serves, it claimed that the hit rate on highly-ranked DBs is quite a bit higher than all other position groups.
