Sort of off topic, but does anyone else think TCU may start getting guys from LA more often now that they're in a major conference? I don't think they'll be competing for top-5 LA guys any time soon, but they've done quite a bit of recruiting here over the years with the less well-known players.

I like the way you think. TCU can become a more attractive option because they will be on regular television now and are in the Big12 but for them to become competitive they will need to prove they are one of the top teams in the Big12. Otherwise, La players would be just as inclined to go to Arkansas, A&M or elsewhere.

As for competing head to head with LSU, I don't see that working out well. However, I could see TCU getting to the point where they get on a kid early who receives an offer late from LSU and he occasionally sticks with TCU.

Of course, it looks like TCU's recruiting philosophy changed this year. They focused more on DFW area kids first and only in the last month have really broadened beyond that area besides the usual big names. I think their goal is to get DFW kids to stay home and then look elsewhere depending on needs. Therefore, I don't know that the actual number of players they get from Louisiana changes all that much especially if they are successful with this approach.

One other thing to consider is TCU has managed to build some national appeal with certain recruits. I have read several articles about players from California, Kansas, Georgia, and even Wisconsin where players have an interest in TCU and want to visit. Since I don't think TCU cares so much where the recruits come from out of state as long as they fill that specific need, I think you could just as easily see this number go up. Basically, it could be like 3 players from La in one year but in another it could be 1 from Ga, 1 from Kansas, and 1 from California or some variation.

With all that said, right now, TCU has got enough to worry about as we are losing a few more to grades this year on top of everything else. Next year's recruiting will be one of the more interesting years to watch for TCU recruiting. Bottom line: Even in a perfect year, TCU isn't a threat to LSU for Louisiana recruiting. If they are successful, they will simply have the opportunity to take the surplus from other schools like Arkansas, OU, Miss State, etc.

No, they won't. We can stop giving them mad props for beating up the MWC the past ten years now.

Agree about TCU. I discussed it with some guys earlier this week when Ty Slanina committed. I think there could come a day in the next 5 or so years where Texas and Oklahoma regret letting TCU in the conference. They have everything needed for huge success. Great recruiting area right in their backyard, very nice facilities, a known reputation, now have big,BCS conference money coming in and top it all off with already the 2nd best coach in the conference behind only the great Bill Snyder. If that's not a recipe for success then I'm not sure what is. They have a top notch coaching staff that evaluates and develops talent at a very high level and now will be able to get better pure talent to work with. They have great potential as long as they have Patterson. They could easily push TAM in a battle of supremecy. Imo they're already better than TAM. TAM can pass them up because they have great potential as well but they're playing from behind at the moment.

I think Jefferson is LSU bound as well. 1st of all he's not getting a Bama offer, so lets just stop that nonsense now. They have around 8-10 spots left and he's not anywhere near the take list at the moment. He could go to FSU and I think they'd take him because they want to establish a foothold in LA but I don't see that happening. USC has offered but they have very limited spots and are heavy favorites for the guys they have on both their DB and WR lists. Again, he's far from the take list. LSU is willing to take him now and always. No one will outrecruit us for him and I think he and his family have an overall good feeling about LSU. Sure they had some moments of bad feelings last year and that's to be expected but I hear his father is very much in Les and LSU's corner. Home is the where his heart is and LSU is home to that kid.

Why wait 3 years? TCU has been better for a while. Not a better program, but better teams.
